Potentially would a team be willing to offer a Heisman winner that amount of money to transfer?

The answer is this would never happen

But to play the game, would he risk potential NFL earnings to transfer to say, Colorado? Would be interesting because that’s a lot of money right now.

No.

CJ Stroud isnt even getting anything that I know of and they have unlimited money to throw around in Columbus.

Its weird.

I edited to say “risk”. That’s what I meant.

No it’s not like he could transfer anywhere and win a championship. It takes a lot more than a great QB to win it all.

If some rich arse booster called Bryce Young and said "i'll give you a $12million dollar deal to be the spokesperson for my business, but you have to play for (insert team)" that doesn't mean the team offered it.

And honestly, sure I think that it'll happen eventually.

This is my thoughts, this is the first year of NIL and look what Tam and Texas are doing, what’s stopping Phil Knight from getting who he wants

Maybe not Bryce Young, but I imagine JFF would have left and went to some other team if offered a bunch of money. Especially if he had a chance of winning a national Championship.

It’s not that weird. They’re (schools + boosters/businesses) not using NIL to reward current players. It is to convince other players to go there, whether that’s high schoolers or college guys in the portal. Stroud’s already there, so no reason to invest heavily in him now. Of course, you want to keep him happy and stay, but that should take less.

This is the problem I foresee NIL having the 1st few years it’s in place. Specifically with A&M. There’s no incentive to pay the guys already there a bunch of money, so there will be 3rd and 4th year starters making 0 while true freshmen not even on the depth chart will have banked hundreds of thousands. It will work itself out after all the classes on the team had this in place during their recruiting class year, but it could definitely lead to some serious jealousy/animosity until then.

Nothing would happen.

If you don't think shite like this isn't already happening with some of the lower tier players, you're lying to yourself. All it takes is one dude.

A solid yayo hookup wouldn't have hurt either.

well yea, offering a UTSA player a chevy malibu isnt the same as offering the Heisman trophy winner $5mil to go to another school

Which is why there are so many players heading to the portal now.

All of it just shows how poorly this was (not) thought out. States have different rules, no cap on how much can be spent on the athlete(s), the college/university is a third party in the experience.

I’m sure when legislators passed laws they thought so-and-so would get a few hundred bucks a year from some local deli. Not million dollar deals from some rich booster setting up a shell LLC.

It’s scary and pathetic how fast this spiraled out of control.

Let’s just say, for example - Elon Musk loves basketball and loves his alma mater. What’s stopping him from giving the top 12 5* HS recruits all a cool mil and a Tesla to go to UPenn for a year before the NBA? And he does this for as long as he lives. He’s the richest man in the world, he can afford it. I hope this happens. And I hope UPenn wins fifty nattys in a row. Just to show how fricking dumb this whole thing is.

I hadn't thought about it, but if A&M has basically unlimited money to spend what's to stop them from just sitting back and waiting to see who the best QB in the country is, then having the boosters offer them absurd money to go there?

Why not? If not Bruce Young then it’ll happen with someone else.

There are no rules, and in systems with no rules, anything can happen, and anything will given enough time.

This is assuming the NCAA doesn’t step in and put some kind of structure around NIL.

I didn't they were offering a Chevy Malibu. There are absolutely boosters who are lining up deals with kids to be a spokesperson once they transfer, it just hasn't been this big of a player yet. It'll happen.
