He must be thinking he can get a long term deal with less per year, but more overall.

And that gives him more financial and job security, while also freeing the team up to get better players around him.

ETA:

Or he's high as frick

Or he wants to play for a ring somewhere

Barnes already has a ring so I doubt that is in his line reasoning here.

What would he be looking at? Maybe 3/$45m?

I don't see why he would do that.

There is a good bit cap space this year. Next year it is projected to be much much less. He feels he probably can make more in the long run by hitting the market this year.

He already has a ring and he's still pretty young. Not like he's a year or 2 from retirement and just trying to go out on top. So I'm thinking...

I hope Harrison Barnes isnt worried about sticking in the league. Hes still got at least 5 years left in the league, minimun.

July 12th Headline: After receiving multiple visits but not coming to agreement on an offer with a team, Barnes fires agent.

Guys like Barnes and Horford opting out may eat up some of the cap space that teams have to spend this summer. Both are rumored to be re-signing with their current teams though, so we'll see.

His agent must already have a deal in place or said agent will be getting fired / sued soon.

It better be for at least 3/55m or he is an idiot.

Since he left GS, and up until last year, he had been averaging 18 a game, and this past season was still a .50/.40/.80 guy. He has value and people are going to overpay for a lot worse than him. He's going to get his.

Bunch of money out there and a top heavy FA class. He could do well.

Or maybe he’s looking to get half or 3/4s of that and join a contender during a wide open year.
