Will the NFL ever go to the NCAA's pass interference ruling..?

Instead of the BS spot where it happens to just 15 yards and an automatic first down...
With so many PI calls, QB's today just lob the ball up and hope for it to be called for an easy long gain...
Besides, who's to say the receiver catches the damn ball anyway...?

So we can have defenders who got beat intentionally interfere?

or you could , ya know, feel the ball and turn your head.

The reverse is more likely to happen

Still an automatic first down and 15 yards....
Do they do that in college...?

Yeah I'm with college rule on this.

If anything college should take the nfl rule

It’s a spot foul and auto first down if under 15 in college though. So what are you wanting that or auto 15 1st down?

NFL PI is the worst rule in sports.
IMHO

NFL PI is good rule it’s the horrible ambiguity of it being called that makes it maddening. And it’s not called same play to play with in the same drive.

I’m more interested in illegal contact and defensive holding. Should not be a automatic 1st down. Should be same as defensive offside...5 yard penalty, replay the down. These automatic penalties are essentially turnovers if they are called on 3rd downs. The punishment doesn’t fit the crime.

Its much more likely that the receiver catches it in the NFL than in college....hence the rule difference.

People say this happens, but it really doesn't happen that often.

They should get rid of the Mel Blount rule completely.

All of this. I agree with the rule in theory, the refs just do a terrible job when enforcing it.

Nothing more frustrating than your team on D 3rd and long and they called for illegal contact

Sorry, I was playing poker when I wrote this.

I liked Gary Danielson's suggestion during the Iron Bowl, do both. The standard would be 15 yards, but the officials would have the ability to call a spot foul if the defender disrupted an obvious touchdown.
It would probably end up being too subjective and would never work, unfortunately.
