I believe the last time Ouachita beat West Monroe was in 1990 (or was that Ruston?)

The last time Ouachita beat WM was the fall of 1994, the same season Ouachita went to the state championship finals to play Hahnville. Coach Mike Vallery left for Kilgore after that season. That Ouachita team was stacked with talent. Up to that point, WM could not beat Ouachita in any sport. Nothing.

OPSB opened up Richwold High a couple of years after that one and all of the athletes effectively scattered. Neville has actually reaped a lot of benefits on that move.

Ouachita Parish High School is a shell of its former self. It is amazing to see how shitty they are in every facet.

22 years have gone by. Kids have been born, graduated high school and college without ever seeing Ouachita beat West Monroe. Wow.
I feel for my friends attached to OPHS because I'm old enough to remember the shoe on the other foot.

The Ruston streak is at 30. (1990)
The Ouachita streak is at 21. (1994)

And Neville hasn't beaten WM since 1995. Not sure how many games in a row that is cause they stopped playing us. Took their toys and went home.

Neville is a much smaller school. They were always 4A but played up to 5A

As Ron Cheramie said, they are no longer in the same district, and don't play every year.

I have heard it said, however that Neville is the best HS team in the state, regardless of class.

Ruston, Ouachita, and Neville were all very good immediately before those streaks started. Ruston & Neville won multiple state championships in the 80's & Ouachita won in '89.

A year or two before that '89 title, Ouachita missed the playoffs, despite being 7-2, and ranked top ten in the state. Both losses were in district.

WM and Bastrop were both bottom-feeders in that district.

That sounds familiar. WM voted to split, correct?

As 4 said, Richwood and Sterlington busted up Ouachita. The school is now in a terrible location (more than before) from a district boundary standpoint.

It will happen, but not at the moment. Plus Ouachita middle school is splitting next year. That will make it tougher as well. There was an adjustment period for WM when we split.

Sometimes geography does this

My high school hasn't beaten our crosstown rival since 1997. You think that two schools only 3 miles apart in the same school district with the same resources wouldn't have such a lopsided rivalry. It has nothing to do with coaching.

Instead it has everything to do with a group of polynesians who all work at DFW Airport for American Airlines, that live in a pocket in South Euless. So they all go to Trinity High School, and they have massive offensive and defensive lines every single year.

Exactly.

Neville dipped their toes in the water and played WM back in 09 & 10 with WM winning both times. They saw that they still could not get over that hill called WM and packed it in.

It would be a great game for both teams. Its a win/win for both programs.

The players at both schools want the game, 'MOST' of the fans of both teams want the game, even the coaches of both teams want the game.

Its just a few powerful old-money alums of Neville who are pulling the strings who are keeping this game from happening.

The Neville folks still can't take the fact that WM is king of the hill in NELA.

As far as OPHS is concerned, I saw a lot of talent on the field for Ouachita last night at the game. That talent is not being utilized by the coaching.

Sub par coaching is/has been the issue at OPHS for a long time.

Yes, other successful programs in the area tend to draw the talent away from OPHS but is still a coaching/booster/alumni issue over at Milhaven Road.

Whoever is holding it up needs to stop. We deserve these two teams playing yearly in a full game, not just a jamboree.

Until Neville signs on the dotted line, it is truth.

The freshman, JV and jamboree games are good but Neville needs to put on their big-boy pants and step up.
