Will Austin, Texas ever get a major sports team for one of the three major sports?

11th most populous city in the country that continues to grow larger each year and yet there’s been no plans or rumors of a major professional sport team moving there. Is it because of teams already being in nearby Houston and Dallas?

Hopefully not an expansion team. We already have too many teams in the pro leagues.

Where would you put a stadium

UT would block an NFL or even an NBA team. NHL would be cool but there’s basically no hockey culture there whatsoever. I guess you could put an MLB team up in like Georgetown?
MLS is pretty much all ATX will get in the foreseeable future

Maybe, but it will be getting one for one of the major 5 sports. Austin FC coming 2021

Astros or Rangers for that matter would be against it.
MLS is the only team I could see.

No, and do not want. Austin is a Longhorn town. It's not a pro sports city, and most of the people here are transplants or love the Cowboys.

there was talk about potential MLB expansion. but mlb attendance is shitty enough outside a few historic teams. when the astros sink back down the fans will drop to 10 years ago levels
too close to the spurs. already 3 texas teams.
jerry jones will block any expansion that cuts into the dallas media market.
soccer gay af.

Once Austin and San Antonio become the new DFW, they’ll acquire a couple of teams

A) You have Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio in the region with major sports teams, and all three are larger metro areas than Austin.
B) UT
Maybe if the AAF takes off they could have a team in Austin, but again there is already one in San Antonio.

Lots of liberals in Austin, and liberals love soccer for some reason. So I can see it getting a soccer team but thats it.

isnt tOSU the reason Columbus doesn't have anything major? If so, I feel like this is the same case with Austin

Dude it's fricking 2.5 hours from Houston to Austin and 3 hours! to Dallas from Austin. You have teams in NY next to each other and teams just across the Bay in California.
I know those distances don't mean shite for people in wasteland Texas and Desert California but for other people that's like driving across your entire State.
