Why would a team pay 300+ MILLION dollars for Aaron Judge?
Posted by Streelman on 10/21/22 at 3:32 pm1522
How can he possibly return that investment. This season was the classic peak at contract time and he is such an obvious example of the Albert Haynesworth type player who will go down the tubes after getting paid. I just cant imagine paying this dude that money but i know a team will. Maybe im wrong and he will be the Goat the next 10 years.

Look at the Big Picture:
Large market deals / sponsorships
Increases sales of team items (jerseys, hats, etc.)
Increases ticket sales and may lead to selling a few more suites
More fans = higher revenues overall, more money spent at games, etc
Typically draws sought after free agents looking to win
Etc.

shouldn't get that IMO... He's too old... An can only hit like that on a softball field
More HRs away than at home. He's a good hitter period.
I dont see him aging well into his 30s. A 6-7 282 outfielder. He's already had injury issues. People aren't meant to be that big. He could move to DH to save some wear and tear but the Yankees already have Stanton who's basically the same thing. An aging OF with injury who needs to DH.

I hope you aren't serious.

He's a great hitter but I don't see how his knees are going to hold up into his mid-late 30s. Can't really DH him with Stanton only a year older and NYY are on the hook for another 5 years with Stanton's contract. Somebody is going to have to learn to play 1B.
Yanks basically have to sign him with all the fanfare around him but they're going to be in a pickle.

In today's world, $300 M is not really that much anymore. The Yankee's tv contract alone covers this salary. This is N.Y.C., not Arlington or Milwaukee or Detroit, etc. A player like Judge brings in millions in ad money alone.

You think the Yankees need Aaron Judge for that? And do you think he adds that much to any team’s bottom line for the duration of his deal? Baseball contracts have been out of control for awhile, the length of them especially

Whatever the deal the Yankees give Judge, the Astros are going to love it
