Brett McMurphy tweeted out some CFB win total lines this morning and the one that caught my attention was USC 8.5.

Their schedule

USC vs Fresno St
USC vs Stanford
USC vs BYU
USC vs Utah
USC @ Washington
USC @ Notre Dame
USC vs Arizona
USC @ Colorado
USC vs Oregon
USC @ ASU
USC @ Cal
USC vs UCLA

Is it reasonable to think they will lose to Stanford, Utah, Washington & Notre Dame? With 3 other games going either way.

They finished 5-7 last year.

In everyone's opinion, are they more likely to win 8 or 9 games?

Like Texas and Notre Dame, they are always hyped to start the season no matter what the state of the program is

Just have to learn how to deal with it

ASU and Cal will be better this year as well. Those two along with Oregon and UCLA will determine if they actually make a bowl game.

If they don’t come out of the gates hot they could be staring at 2-4 at the midway point. Helton is toast if that happens.

Honest question, would you take Orgeron over Helton right now?

I think they'll be fortunate to get 8 wins. Helton is a lame duck and Scott Wolf kills him almost in a daily basis. It's crazy the ineptness of the leadership there.

One time when I was in Las Vegas I was talking to a guy. Not sure if he was a professional sports better or what, but he lived in LV.. He was either a good bullshitter or knew his shite, but he told be to always look at the lines on any game involving L.A. teams.

Since it's only a 45 mins plane ride and within driving distance to Las Vegas there are a lot of bettors from L.A. who are "biased betting" so there is usually at least a half to a whole point added to the line.

First thing I thought when I saw this was that like every fan base, there will be a lot of fans who think they will be better than they actually are. USC fans will bet it because they will see 9-10 wins.. But then as the season gets closer and people start thinking about football, it will probably drop to at least 8 wins...

SC has talent. They also have Clay Helton, so I'd take the under.

Another 5-7 season looming IMHO, but it's possible SC could do as well as 8-4 if the players buy in to Graham Harrell's system and we get steady play from the O-line and defense, and Clay Helton stays out of his own way.

I'd be absolutely shocked and delighted with a 9 win or better season, which is something no USC fan should have to say with a straight face. We're just that bad with Helton at the helm.

I'd say 6-6 and USC is getting a new coach

Fresno is good. Would be surprised if SC wins that game.

CU will be terrible and likely Arizona, but USC could lose to everyone else.

Add Oregon and ASU to that list. I would take the under on 8.5 wins

"Journalists" going out on an unreachable limb with a popular team so that they can start the conversation about them. This is how news is created, people. He learned a lot during his time at ESPN.

A Vegas wiseguy on the radio a few years ago said USC always gets the most action preseason than any other program in the nation.

Much less likely. USC may end up having the worst year in its program's history.

If USC loses to Fresno, which is more likely than not IMO, I can only imagine how low the attendance numbers will be. Add that to Helton and the fact that the university, itself, is a shite show right now, I'm not sure what happens to USC football. Sanctions have nothing on this.

I would take Orgeron's leftover gumbo over Helton. There is not a single head coach or even coordinator I wouldn't trade for Helton. I would rather the head coach position be vacant than Helton return. There is nobody worse in the country. This is not hyperbole. He is worse than anyone here can possibly imagine.
