I can’t remember the last time I heard “that guy sucked until so and so QB coach worked with him. Yet you always hear coaching blamed on poor Qb development.

I never played Qb, but I’m convinced QB development is all on the players. Footwork, throwing motion, etc. coaching can only do so much. Was it Phillip Rivers that has poor arm motion? That wasn’t coached.

Not 100% by any means. Just the right talent and player will develop no matter the coaching, and the wrong just won’t no matter what.

Think it has to do more with the system they're put in as opposed to the actual 1v1 coaching.

Can't fit a square peg into a round hole.

There’s a wide difference in QB coaching in terms of mechanics and QB coaching in terms teaching the position and putting that QB in a position to succeed

Personally I think mechanics at a certain point only can help improve a QB incrementally after a certain age. You aren’t going to bring in a 22 year old kid who played 3 years of college ball to come in the NFL and “fix” his throwing motion, that’s just who he is

The good coaches can take who he is and mold an offense to make that the best he can be.

Lot of these QB Guru camps spend hours and hours on these drills to get the “mechanics” down when the position is mostly about instincts and being able to read the field and make throws.

Definitely not accurate.

QB coaching is more mental than physical. You have to train your QB to trust what he sees and not revert to horrible habits. Great QB coaches can make an average QB good bad coaches can make a great one look awful

Prime example is mechanics. You’re training your mind to remember to..
Put the C Note in your pocket.

Campbell was a HS all american that started early as a sophomore at Auburn. When did his development change completely?

I don't have an answer to your question, but Pat McAfee said something in his typical blunt way the other day, "Ryan Tannehill got away from Adam Gase and became a baller."

I think coaches can hold QBs back (Gase/Tannehill) just as much as they can build them up (Belichick/Brady). You'll always have guys who will ball out wherever they go because they've got the mental game locked down + some physical tools to help - guys like Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers.

Bellichick should get no credit into development of Brady. Weiss and OBrien should. His QB coach at Michigan (Parrish) deserves most of it though. He sent multiple QB as starters to NFL

The only people who do that are the dolts who say it’s a “system” and when pressed for more detail they say the system is “having a really good team” every year despite players, coaches, playbooks, and team types have all been wildly different throughout the years

I don’t think anyone else really credits Brady’s QB development on Belicheck. Although around like 2009 Belicheck did get bored coaching defense and took a big role in the offense for a couple years. But Brady was already elite by then.

I don’t know enough about the Situations, but the little I do is that the Titans are a much better team including having a great power run game. Which makes a Qb’s job a hell of a lot easier.

Yes, bad coaching can certainly hurt. And there are some great coaches that help. It just seems like on Avg a Qb is either going to get it or not on his own.
