Just because he used to go on with Culotta and Ponamsky and watched the cubs on WGN?

He didn’t play at a high level but is an LSU baseball nerd. Goes to the fall practices, keeps up with recruits, etc.

I completely agree. And listening to him pontificate like he’s a baseball Oracle is nauseating.

He knows more about baseball than the rest of the 104.5 lineup.

That’s not saying much though

I believe it just shows how little on air talent there is in BR

Hunt is actually pretty knowledgeable with basketball and baseball for a guy that didn't play after high school. His football knowledge is limited, but I enjoy his segments, particularly when he ribs opposing team fan bases on air or Twitter.

I think you are confused as to what a media “expert” is. Almost none of the media “experts” have had a long playing/coaching career. They cover the sport, they interview the coaches, and learn the game by watching and listening.

Having said that, I don’t get your disdain for Hunt Palmer. He doesn’t claim to be an expert. His radio name for the longest time was “Hunt the Fan”. As in, hey guys, I’m just a fan here who loves sports. He doesn’t have an ego.

As a listener, I value his input. As already mentioned by another poster, Hunt goes to fall and preseason practices. He sees the players more than us. He gets to speak with the coaches and gets their opinions on some players. He does the same with basketball. He’s always looks for the positive in a situation, so if you ever hear him criticize, someone done messed up. I find him very knowledgeable on LSU sports and enjoy when he is on the radio.

I find it weird when a guys only hobby is knowing everything about sports.

Hunt knows LSU baseball better than 99% of this website. Baseball nerds that weren’t players past high school are respected at every level of broadcasting for the sport.

Hunt seems like a good dude and he knows baseball. Football he’s pretty meh, but I think he’d admit that.

He posts on here btw under his real name.

It’s not his hobby, it’s his career.

He's not a career radio host. I'm pretty sure his career is in insurance sales.

I like Hunt. I think he is just a knowledgeable guy with reasonable opinions. Not unlike Charlie Hannigrif. I don't get the sense he tries to portray himself as an expert. But relative to most of the 104.5 line up he is a guy that follows college baseball MUCH more closely than the rest.

I am pretty sure he wants to be if he can make it work monetarily. He just isn't big enough yet so he supplements. I think he'd tell you he really has two jobs, not a one job and one hobby.

That's what I've always thought/heard. But I don't know Hunt so I could be wrong there

I like Hunt. What exactly would you like to hear from an "expert"?

He follows a major league team religiously and follows lsu baseball as close as all of us on the rant. He also covered the team for a few years. So yeah, he is definitely an opinion worth having on BR radio. Especially when you consider the limited knowledge of the sport from guys like tbob, hester, jordy, ott, and mario
