They are waiting each other out.

This has already been stated by the passans/nightengales.

Both don't want to be the first to sign, while other gets more $$$.

Owners/GMs have finally gotten smart and decided to stop paying guys based on past performance and are paying for future performance now.

It seems like watching the end of the Pujols deal cripple the Angels is opening some eyes.

Harper and machado are only 26, trends will tell you they still have great years left

They are actually the age where a big contract wouldn’t be that bad

Pujols was 32 when he signed......

Arod was 33 for his second yanks deal

Those were stupid as hell

It's not the money, it's the years. Teams don't want to be stuck with a contract for a decade that they might not be able to move if they want to.

It's way too much risk for a team.

This is new approach by MLB GM's, so players like Harper and Machado are still trying to get the 7-10 year deals that players in the past got. And the GM's aren't caving. They're still willing to pay them absurd amounts of cash each year, they just don't want to sign players to these decade-long contracts.

This. And both of them want to be paid more than the other one so both of them are waiting for the other one to sign so they can top it.

One thing the teams have going for them in a long term deal is inflation. 30 million AAV might not be so bad in 8-10 years.

8-10 years down the road would be the tail end of the contract which wouldn’t be much help.

I wish MLB had a rule that if you weren’t signed by a certain date, you had to sit out the whole season.

Both have the Gold Pussy Syndrome badly. Especially Harper. God for the Owners for standing up.

Why on earth do people support the owners in this situation?

Owners of teams are the ones getting the richest! Despite this fact, many ask for government handouts to build stadiums and keep team payrolls low at the expense of fielding a competitive team.

Owners and GM finally stood up to Scott Boras. I'm enjoying watching this off-season.

Free agency correction started last year. Baseball teams would rather pay young guys pennies then pay high priced free agents that are never worth it in the long run. In the post steroid era, guys decline quickly at 32.

Honestly believe we are headed to a strike.

Because the majority of the owners got into that position by creating a business of significant value to society rather than by playing a kids game and demanding $300 million to do it. I love baseball but it’s easy to see why people side with the owners

Can't say I agree with you there. Mostly because:

Reason enough for me to not side with owners in a labor dispute.

The main reason fans tend to side with management is because they don't care who's wearing the uniform, they just want a team on the field playing ball.

And while it's common knowledge how much a player makes or is asking for, most people aren't aware of how much money is actually being made at the top.

Why Haven't Bryce Harper & Manny Machado Signed Yet?

Cause teams can find young studs and pay them about 10-30 million for 6 years of work.

Because MLB owners are finally looking over at their NFL counterparts and taking notes?
