Why does USC have a bye on the last week of the season?

I thought schools didn't do that anymore? I know the Iron Bowl and The Game used to do it but I thought that had kindve fallen out of fashion or was outright banned by the conferences.

The Pac 12 Championship Game is on a Friday this season.

Maybe it has something to do with that? They don't want a short week in case they were in that game.

Idk.

Usc gets zero say regarding when our bye week is. The conference picked that week. Trust me, no SC fan wanted a full season without a bye; our injury list this year was absurd.

Technically, USC could have scheduled an OOC game that weekend assuming it could have found an open opponent.

UCLA had a bye week smack dab in the middle of the season.

I'm sure most teams would prefer that than a hypothetical bye week at the end of the year.
