Why does Mike Gundy struggle so bad to beat OU?

It’s obvious on most years that the Sooners have the better team but there are some years where OSU is clearly a better team up to that point and they somehow find a way to lose to OU. Gundy is a good and consistent coach but one grey area on his resume will always be his inability to beat OU. Why is this?
Take 2013, 15, 16 and 17 for example. These are all games that OSU had a big chance to put their stamp and show that they’re elite but couldn’t get it done. Not saying they should beat ou most of the time but more than twice in 15 matchups should be expected.

Because Okie St. is consistently inconsistent, while OU is consistently good.

This season they were ranked #6, getting praise for having one of the best defenses in the country, and were in perfect position to finally win the Big 12.

Then they give up 41 points to a 2-2 Texas team.

First of all, OU has the talent advantage each and every single year.

Second though is Gundy coaches tight as hell against OU. Even when oSu has had the better team. He is 2-13 and easily could be more like 5-10 or 6-9.

I’ve typed out five different cocky answers, but I’m going to hold off on offering my opinion until this game is over.

Yea that makes sense. So basically OU out talents them and rises to the occasion since it’s bedlam. Their mindset is, even though they’re ranked better than us and we have more losses, we aren’t going to lose to these guys in our own state.

It isn’t just Gundy. The all time series record is 90-18-7.

This so called “rivalry” is an utter joke on the whole. There is no Bedlam that happens, it’s an OU slaughter every year.

It’s more lopsided than the Alabama/Miss State series

Record-wise that is definitely true. Though over the past 25 years, it hasn't been quite as bad as it was historically.

Just looked it up, OU is up 18-7 in the last 25 years. Nine of the 18 wins were games won by 10 points or less.

You do realize that OU and Tejas have 10x more talent? They also go 2-3 deep on charts.

Where as the rest of Big12 schools, what you see on the field is their best, no studs waiting for their spots.

Mike gundy is a good coach but Oklahoma State doesn't have a very good history and because of that struggles with Oklahoma who has a much better history. One can sell it and get the better recruits and the other can only sell hope.

Bama is 83-18 over state

OU is 90-18 over osu

I don’t give a shite about ties, it’s more lopsided from a W/L perspective

OU is really good? They have all of the tradition, the alumni, boosters, talent advantage? OSU is the quintessential "little brother" program.
