Why do games on TV need commentators?

Do people just need someone to talk to them?

Networks could broadcast games the same way and just cut the commentators.

It would be interesting to see how postgame opinions of players would change if there wasn't the color guy telling you how to think someone played that day.

People would get disinterested if there wasn't someone talking

One day I will have my own network, and I will just bring in two random fans from each team to comment on the game.

Pretty sure NBC tried the commentator-less NFL game back in the '80s.

We need those valuable sideline reporters to tell us that the guy that limped off has some type of leg injury. And also to interview the coach at the half and ask him the same questions eavery week and get the same vague answers.

So I don't feel lonely when I'm watching the game by myself

I remember it was Jets at Dolphins. Not sure of the exact year; maybe 83?

Yeah I always thought about how it'd be cool to have a network that showed games with commentators who could say whatever they wanted. Like cussing out the refs etc. It'd be fantastic.

That would be pretty boring.

I think it's a pretty fair reason. I mean, if you are watching it by yourself, it would suck. At least to me.

they wouldn't change... fans are too smart and it will get written and blogged and spoken about after anyway

every now and then on fox soccer they have fanzone, which is premier league soccer fans of opponents in the booth with each other

Yeah but sometimes there are some obscure rules people don't really know. (1 pt safety most recently)

"Todays broadcast team is SPF and VerlanderBeast. And of course our very own sideline reporter... Dukke V"

I am sold.

The only way i see No comentators working for football is if you mic up everyone on the field or have one for each area of the field and just let it play

That would never happen without a tape delay though so its no fun
