Why are college basketball student sections so much nerdier than football and baseball?

Going to games at LSU, it was obvious. It's also evident when the camera pans over student sections at other schools?
Before everyone gets mad, basketball is my favorite sport. I love it.

Think has more to do with basketball arenas being smaller and therefore you can clearly see individuals in the crowd. It's the same at football games, but there is way more people and you can't really single out a lot of individuals.

The student section in football is so big you don't notice them that much.
Actually, just walk by the student entrance 6 hours before a football game and you're guaranteed to see nerds. Waiting in line to get in game rather than tailgating is the epitome of nerdy.

Because good basketball schools are more difficult to get into than good football schools.
I mean anybody can get into great football schools like Alabama and LSU (#133 tie with Alabama!) and FSU and
Not many people could get into Duke, UCLA, Syracuse and Kansas.
(Exception: anybody can get into Kentucky - it's not even in the Top 130 of US News Universities). They are the basketball vs. football outlier.
So you see a lot more nerds than SEC fans. A lot more Asians, people who actuall had good grades and didn't get a free education.
Only 5 SEC schools rank in the Top 100...all but 1 Big10 and 1 Pac-12 don't rank in the Top 100. Same with the ACC.
Every P5 Conference has the majority of their members in the Top 100 except the SEC which has the majority of their members outside the Top 100.
Will the SEC ever escape the stereotype of sports over scholarship?

For the Izzone you had to stand in line for a long time beforehand with tons of security on the outside so you couldn't really drink. It's just a lot of sober people.

Not many people go to college basketball games for the social factor. Even at bball school ( arenas smaller not as many tickets as football) so your lose a lot of the "less nerdy" people.
