Players that would be great but failed for some reason. I'm not talking about players that were just extremely overrated, like Trent Richardson, Johny Manziel or Akili Smith. I'm talking about a player like Josh Gordon. Players that were super talented and proved they could play in the NFL at a high level even if it was a couple games.

No particular order, just some that come to mind that i have seen.

Josh Gordon- is one of the best WRs in the NFL when he is playing.

Aaron Hernandez- he would have been a top 5 TE every year even though he was on the same team as Gronk.

Cecil Collins- i doubt many people outside of Louisiana actually know how unbelievable he was at RB.

Aldon Smith- one of the best defensive players in the league when he played

*Mike Vick - i think losing that time in prison kept him from being truly great. I think he would have been a much better passer with that time.

*Ricky Williams- same as Vick. I think missing that much time hurt him in becoming great.

Lawrence Phillips- not sure he showed enough in the league but was probably drunk in most games.

So many more I can't think of right now.

Not sure about:

Priest Holmes
Larry Johnson
Greg Hardy

Don't know enough about:
Marcus Dupree

Who do yall have?

Meh, he tried.

It just turns out he was really fricking slow.

Good college player given the right circumstances but was never gonna be an NFL star.

It probably kept him fresh. He ran for 10,000 yards and there's only been 4 others to do that since him. Shady is probably the only RB playing who's a lock to join those 4.

Ryan Leaf, Art Schlichter, JaMarcus Russell, Johnny Manziel, and Vince Young, in the quarterback division of wasted talent.

That's why i said I didn't know about him. Didn't look anything up and remember him having a crazy good couple of seasons. But he wasn't someone that was expected to be great so he shouldn't have been on there. At that point, I was throwing names out to see if any stuck.

I never thought Clarett was gonna be a great player. The media hyped him up.

Clarett or Manziel were good players. But not overly "talented".
Dupree and Jamarcus were talented.

Bobby Hurley. How good of an NBA PG would he have been had he not gotten hurt?
