Let's say Bama wins over UGA 2012 style by a hair
Bama is in
Oklahoma runs the table and finishes 12-1. They play in weakest P5 conference but they have a W over Ohio St
Ohio St runs the table, beating an undefeated Penn St and Wisconsin and finishes with a top 5 SoS and 12-1
Clemson runs table and finishes 12-1
ND runs the table and finishes 11-1
Who gets in?
I'm going with
Alabama
Oklahoma
Clemson
Ohio St

What if everything else in your scenario stays the same, but TCU goes 12-0 and then loses to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship? Does the Big 12 get left out in favor of Notre Dame? By that point they'd have some high quality wins and a one point loss to the SEC runner up

ND would have beaten Sparty, Southern Cal, NC State, Miami and Stanford. Their one loss would be a 1 point loss to UGA. They would deserve to get in with that resume.

Oklahoma should absolutely get in over osu provided they both have one loss. They kicked their arse

Notre Dame will get in. They will have won 11 straight including upcoming wins vs NC State at home as well as at Miami and at Stanford. Only loss would be a 1 point loss to UGA. I don't like Notre Dame but that would be a pretty stout resume. They would get in without doubt.
No idea why you used OU from the B12 when you really ought to have said TCU. TCU has a very good shot of being undefeated. OU defense isn't very good at all.

What if the XII has a title game where a 2-loss team upsets a 1-loss team? That would mean they put in a CCG to boost their chances and it knocked them out of the playoff instead.

C'mon, they literally make rules for ND, so they don't have to be in a conference.
they win out, they are in, 100%.
Georgia loses to Bama in sec title game, in a close one, it could push them in over an OU/Clemson at 1 loss.
OU still has to beat okie st. A lot still has to happen.

The ND issue would be complicated if UGA was 12-1.

One loss ND is in, set the resume aside the money involved would be huge.
It breaks like this:
-Bama/UGA
-TCU/OU
-ND/Clemson/Miami
-OSU/PSU

why would Clemson get in over ND?

Too much football left to be played.
I don't think it's very likely that we have 5 deserving teams in the end.
The PAC and B12 have a lot of parity so I could easily see both having 2 loss teams as champs.
There's a lot pending losses in the B1G-E too.
It's unlikely the loser of a CCG would make the CFP. With the exception of BAMA, there's no way a team would bump out another 1 loss team that won their own CCG.

IMO you can’t reward ND for not being in a conference. You take the four conference champions in your scenario. I don’t think you can reward a second conference participant a spot either. The conference structure is set up much like a playoff. You should use it to pare down a pool of 120+ teams. So no to ND and no to a conference ever getting two spots.

So if he had the playoff in 2011 you wouldn't have put Bama and LSU in even though they were clearly the best two teams in the country?

No I wouldn’t have. Think of the conference play that year as a play in to get in. It would be like Bama lost out in the play in spot.
2011 basically didn’t do anything in “settling anything” because they had people using the eye test eliminate the other 100+ teams when objectively and logically you don’t give rematches.
They denied Oklahoma St a spot when they won a round robin conference tournament and had a higher objective computer score.
If it were me I would just calculate the old BCS computer score with the conference champions. I woild have the top 6 get in and the top 2 seeds get byes. The higher seed gets the home games. Then play the championship at a neutral site.
A committee and polls are extremely stupid and corrupt.

Does a 1 loss Norte Dame get in over a 1 loss UGA? I wouldn’t think so. If ND gets in so should UGA.

I think the PAC and Big 12 are going to be left out anyway. Both will have a 2 loss champion. Clemson has a bad loss and could drop another. I can see a conference getting 2 in this year. Be it the SEC or the BIG.

Don't see big 12 winner with two losses
Imo OU ain't losing again. 12-1 or worst case a 12-1 TCU team
