They do do it when teams haven’t been competitive in a long time

It is rare though

Was the last time this happened when the Big East booted Temple?

The Big 12 adds nobody. Once Texas and OU are gone, the Big 12 is dead because it has no "main eventers", just a bunch of midcard acts. Adding teams from the AAC or MWC will just be adding more midcard acts to the league.

It's like AEW adding a bunch of WWE midcard acts and then trying to claim they are big time. You need The Rock, John Cena, Hulk Hogan, and main event types to be relevant.

Who will be the main eventer in a Big 12 that adds AAC/MWC teams? No one.

Yeah, much like Mizzou in the SEC, West Virginia plugged into the Big 12 just doesn't work.

This is not a done deal. Texas is the issue since I believe there is an unwritten agreement among, UK, SC, UGA, FLA and A&M not to allow a 2nd SEC school from their state into the conference. Those schools benefit greatly by being the only SEC team in the state.

Second, OSU is a real problem for OU joining the SEC. How does that get solved if you have legislation preventing OU from joining a conference without OU?

Texas and OU might have to go their separate ways. Texas could go independent or join the BIG and OSU and OU could join the SEC.
