The details seem to be breaking out as $43 million for 2019-24, with 2025 and 2026 as option years that could close to double the contract’s value (~$20 million per year, presumably) to $77.5 million total.

He may end up being incredible, but I'm glad the cubs didn't have to pay him that with the massive contracts they're about to have to hand out

This is what happens when you have a dominican player who likely grew up poor. This is more money then they could possible imagine growing up. He gets security, teams get a possible cheap deal. I'm sure the union isn't happy.

I'll be at the Sox / Tigers game on April 26th, hope he is up at that time.

No reason not to have him up if they sign him to a deal like this.

Scott Kingery did this last year, $24M guaranteed for 6 years, up to $65M with three club option years... at the time that was the highest guaranteed money to a player that didn't have an MLB at bat.

And he was pretty bad last year.

Dudes a crazy talent but he’s been struggling during spring training according to local radio. Many talking heads are very confident he’s going to bounce back though.

The only guys I want to give huge money to is Javy, KB has regressed the past few years and he’s going to be a pain because of Boras. If he reverts to his first two years then we should revisit, right now he’s showing nothing to wArrant the hardball tactics Boras is and will take.

This is nothing for a 22 year that is projected to hit .291/.340/.513.

I've got some stock in him in fantasy. Hopefully the minor league stint isjust the 3 weeks to gain the extra year of control.

Actually baseball is getting normal with moves like this.
Teams no longer want to pay players when they get 30 because they usually start declining. So pay them when they’re younger.

With this extension, that doesn’t matter anymore. I imagine he will be up very soon.

Yeah but they don't have to pay them anything.

They would also lose them after 6 years, this way they can use the leverage to get an option for a couple free agent years that should still be prime production

Lots of talk out of Toronto with folks wanting the Blue Jays to do the same thing with Vlad Jr. Lock him up early. Thing is, with all the years of team control and arbitration, why?
