Which job is better? Sixers vs Pelicans
Posted by LSShoe1030 on 8/25/20 at 8:08 am16
If you’re a coveted NBA coach which of these two jobs is more desirable?
Eastern conference playoff team with two core players in Simmons & Embiid
Or Tough western conference with Zion, Ingram other good young assets and a ton of draft picks
I’m leaning Pelicans but I don’t know if it’s because I am biased

Well, I believe the Pelicans situation is overall better. I see Simmons or most likely Embiid getting disgruntled and forcing their way out next year.

Exactly I see this as being the beginning of the end of what Sixers were doing with this core. The pels are just getting started

Pelicans. Sixers roster just doesn’t fit. Very poor build. Will take some fixing.

If you’re asking which job is better based on historical relevance, 76ers easy. If you’re asking which team has more potential for the future, it’s probably the Pelicans but the 76ers roster has some young talent too.

Pelicans, but I base that a lot on roster construction, contract situations, and GM.
The salaries on that club are outrageous and they will be absolutely stuck with some of them. If they can get rid of some, they will have to give up significant resources to do so. Horford in particular is an albatross.
The roster doesn’t fit at all. Brand has done a poor job of roster assembly and I don’t think he can get it done.
The Pelicans have a ton of future assets, cap flexibility, and two young stars below 23.
Embiid and Simmons are better than Zion and Ingram right now but the rest of that roster will be hard to deal with.

Sixers and it’s not even close.

Simple answer. The Sixers are in the Eastern Conference and have a much easier path to go deep in the playoffs.

Both are great jobs but Pelicans is the premier job right now

Nets is probably the premier job although I probably wouldn’t want to coach Kyrie.

pelicans, better roster and less pressure to win

You probably have more job security in New Orleans because Zion and Ingram are the only pieces who are off limits and Zion is only going into his second season.
Philly has bigger problems because they are capped to hell and back and have an odd team construction, especially since Simmons can’t shoot.
Who has a better chance of winning right now? Philly.
Who has a better chance of winning in the next 3-5 years? New Orleans because Philly has committed a LOT of money to a core that doesn’t appear to gel and it is unlikely that they get many takers for Horford or Harris if they have to move someone.
They could move Simmons but they won’t get value for him since he is on a rookie deal.

Taking out historical prestige, it’s easily Pelicans.
The Sixers cap situation is nightmare, and that’s before we even get into wtf you do with Simmons / Embiid.

It’s amazing how quick people forget that they lost to the champs on a buzzer beater in game 7. And their starting lineup had the best point differential in the league the year before that.
Simmons and Embiid work great together if you surround them with shooting, instead the Sixers inept front office just went star hunting.

Sixers, more talent if you need to trade as well

Sixers. I'm never sure if the Pelicans won't end up relocating like the Jazz did back in the day. The Sixers aren't going anywhere.

One of these teams is paying:
Tobias Harris an average of $36+ million over the next 4 years
Al Horford $27 million per year for the next three years
That’s not the best situation, even with Simmons and Embiid who probably don’t even work together long term.
