I'm not even talking about the old wild west days of the 90s with UFC 1,2,3, etc and Pancrase and others.

I mean, which do you like more as a spectator, today's ultra competetive, kind of corporate but kind of anti-estalishment, multi-shows per month, mainstream, semi-WWE, highly skilled, Reebok UFC?

Or the frat boy Saturday night PPV party feeling, backwards hat Joe Rogan wearing, multi promotion, Chuck Liddel/Tito Ortiz/Bob Sapp days of the 00s?

I must say, the product and depth is much better now overall, but damn those days of The Ice Man vs The Natural and vampire-fang Andre Arlovski, early Brock Lesnar and smoke show Gina Carano beating up bitches just seemed like way, way more fun.

I like both but today’s fighters are on another level. It’s always cool seeing a guy like a tank abbot or a Derrick Lewis that can just fold anybody up with a strike and aren’t very technical though.

It’s Also nice having great fights almost every weekend and their is no shortage of talent.

Bob Sapp the big star of 2000s MMA. Seems like you don't remember these days yourself, fan buddy.

Today's UFC is the highest quality, most entertaining combat sport to ever exist. Old school boxing and MMA had some people that were good for unpredictable craziness but the actual competition in UFC today is real high, with none of the sideshow carnival qualities from yesteryear.

One era not only has bitch fights, but also promotes them as “main events”.

Anyone who remotely followed fighting back in the early-mid 00s knew who Bob Sapp was.

Probably today’s UFC, but I miss a large Japanese promotion since I’m never really sure what Rizin is doing.

Don’t even have to go back to Pride. I loved Dream when I was able to catch it. Nagashima v. Aoki is probably my favorite 10-15 minutes of television of all time.

when renting movies was the only way I'd watch those first UFC's on tape from Movie Gallery.

but it got bigger and then I actually went to UFC XVII in Mobile.

Pete Williams kicked Mark Coleman square in the side of the head and down he went

fricking crowd went wild

when we went back and watched a copy of thAT from the store you could see Coleman's eyes roll back in his head.

I mean I was into that kinda stuff in the late 90's for awhile but interest leveled off for no particular reason.

If you cant watch and appreciate the Joanna vs whang fight as one of the bets fights in combat sports ever I don’t know what to say. There have been some great female fights in the ufc.

Today's by far. The talent and skill level is just so much higher now and, to me, that's more entertaining.

The 2000s was entertaining in the way like you said, it just seemed like two dudes fighting, which has it's own section of entertaining. However, if I'm watching a PPV from a professional organization, it just seems today's fighting is better suited

For instance, I enjoyed watching the highlights of helio Gracie face masahiko kimura

Or when rickson fought zulu

MMA has become awash with talent. Everybody is so good that nobody can really stand out. Can’t say whether that’s good or bad? If a fighter defends the belt 3 times they are a hall of famer.

If you really pull for a fighter, prepare for heartbreak because they are getting dropped and soon.

It’s so wide open.

That’s weird that you say that because modern mma has had way more dominant champions

Jones
Nunes
Khabib
Dj

It sure what era to consider Silva and at Pierre but they are probably closer to the modern era.

I enjoyed the old WEC with smaller guys like Mike Brown and Urijah Faber. Speedy guys in action packed fights.

I would take everything about today’s UFC except the Reebok crap. It was more fun when the fighters had their sponsors on their shorts. Also more people howling like Rampage would be acceptable.

^^^^^This

I loved the wild west days of multiple promotions and roids and Japan, etc, but the UFC product today has been basically perfected.

But taking away those guys sponsorships was just a total f-u to all these guys. I think Brenden Shaub said he went from making six figures from sponsorships to around $5000 after the Reebok deal.

Just imagine if golfers and Nascar had all their sponsors taken away. It was the same deal.

Too big of a frick up. Undeniable GOAT talent but fricked himself over and over.

Khabib didn’t seem like that long? I’m getting old though. Years are rolling by.

Injuries. Freak and chronic ruined them. Silva was last to me. A definite 8 or 10 fight win streak? How many title defenses? And if he doesn’t act like an arse he may never get KO’d.

It’s just so different now. And continuing to grow. You can tear an ACL now and the sport has passed you by. Nevermind a Silva type injury.

You truly have to love the sport to love MMA now. Because enjoying watching a person fight gets you about 3-4 years.
