Does he make an all time team? I personally don't even think he's top 3. Top 5 maybe....but he wouldn't make my all time team.

If we are doing a list of MLB players with the most impressive list of women he'd be #1 for sure. But that does come with STDs

FWIW, he played 20 seasons.....

I would like to know his comparable per season WAR to other shortstops.....

For example, he averaged a WAR of 3.59 per season

his peak WAR seasons arent hall of fame level. his top 7 WAR seasons amount to 39.6 which is short by less than 3 WAR

What I figured. For example, Trot Tulowizki(sp)average WAR per season is 3.66, compared to Jeters 3.59......

Just saw he is 16th all time in WAR7. That is about where I think Jeter would fall on my all time SS ranking, in terms of players I would chose in front of him

That's about 5.5 WAR per season not less than 3. And the only non-HOFers ahead of him in WAR7 are Alan Trammell who should be a HOFer and Nomar Garciaparra who would have been a HOFer if injuries hadn't wrecked his career.

He was as clutch in playoffs with the stick as anyone ever. It was incredible the numbers he put up.

His defense has always been wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy over rated. He was an average defender at SS, but the New York media with help from ESPN made him into this defensive gem specialist. Far from it.

Would have to be top3-4

That isnt how it is figured

There are 21 shorstops in the hall of fame

Their avg war7 is above Jeters. That is all that is saying

Hall of fame level peak WAR is 42.8, Jeter was 39.6. So I misread the actual cutoff, it's actually a little more than 3 total WAR

Somewhere around 11 or 12 sounds right just based on where he ends up in relation to other playes but I could see him as low as like 15

I didn't realize Nomar was that high on the list. When the question got brought up I immediately thought of Arod, Ripkin, Wagner, and Smith were ahead of him if I had to choose. Some people like his leadership role, but that only goes so far.

How do you keep coming up with 3 WAR? WAR7 is the seven best WAR seasons by a player. Derek Jeter had a WAR7 of 42.2 which is about an average of 6 WAR/season. And the average HOF SS had a WAR7 of 42.8. That's a very small difference.

Obviously Yount's statistics speaks for itself, but I never remember him when I think SS and he was a little before my time. Everyone knows Smith because of his Defense and Wagner is a legend. He just always skips my mind.
