When does Florida State get back to that elite level?
Posted by cardswinagain on 9/26/20 at 9:40 pm00
I thought Norvell was a solid hire, but man the talent level is down so badly. It wasn't all that long ago they won a National Championship. FSU can't be hurting for recruits are they?

They haven’t recruited OL since like 2013

Willie Taggart had two recruiting classes and never signed a QB. They are fricked for a few years.

That Sam Howell flip to UNC really fricked them.

That's unbelievable at a program like FSU. They should not be where they are in this position

Well they've had like 5 good players in the last 4 years.

That program needs to be blown up and start over. Its gonna be a rough rebuild process.

This is what baffles me. Yes I know they are competing with Florida and Miami, but there should still be enough players to go around

They’ll never get there if they don’t give a coach time

Bama and Georgia establishing themselves in Florida has fricked FSU. Miami can still sign great classes with South Florida kroots alone, but North Florida/Panhandle has been completely taken over

Err'body recruiting in Florida but 4.3 speed seems to grow on trees in the state of Florida and there should be enough for everyone

They should have hired Leach 3 years ago. He would win Natty's at Fla State and could recruit a top 12 class every year in his sleep.
Things we wish we had seen. Leach at a premiere destination job.
Leach can fricking coach.
It would've been awesome to see him at a place that can recruit itself. He could always recruit QBs and WRs at an elite level...he just needed a place and a State with elite D talent that would just go there because it's home.

Sooner than Nebraska. But the answer to Nebraska is "never"

The Taggart hire was a lazy one and it killed their program for the next several years. I think Norvell is a good coach but I don't know if that's going to work long term. He had players openly calling him out on Twitter, which tells me they have no respect for him and he needs to totally clean house. Guys like Marvin Wilson and Tamorrion Terry are super talented but cancers to a football team.
I would guess that Taggart let those guys get away with whatever they wanted to do and they aren't responding well when Norvell tries to instill some discipline.

Pretty soon it might be hard to overcome. They haven’t been relevant in 7 years. When do kids start not even looking at FSU as a good football school. Might never recover

I'm guessing you haven't paid much attention to recruiting in the state of Florida lately.
Alabama basically owns the Panhandle and gets whoever they want. Georgia is the second choice behind Bama for basically everyone else. These teams are getting traditional FSU recruits.
Clemson set up a tent in Tampa/Orlando about 4 years ago. They are getting tons of traditional UF recruits.
Miami is a complete shitshow with an admin that despises football. Its been 15 years since they could load up on "3-star" barely literate overlooked players that became superstars, because every school in America is recruiting those same players. Alabama has bought seemingly every sure-thing, no-doubt player out of Miami for the last 10 years.
Texas A&M has entered the SoFla bag game the last couple seasons. Urban Meyer pulled a bunch of in-state players his first few years at OSU.
The bag game is strong top to bottom (every team plays it, including Florida) and there's a lot of in-state residents who have family ties around the country - parents in Houston but live with grandmama in Jacksonville, Mom and Dad live in Tampa but the whole family is from Los Angeles suburbs; Florida is a state you move to not get born in, so it has much less appeal as a "home state".
