when they both probably came from terrible backgrounds to begin with.
They beat the odds and make it in a league that can make you very wealthy.
What is the motivation for throwing it all away on stupid decisions?

Parenting, or lack thereof.

Honestly, good parenting would fix almost every problem in our country.

Someone that was always a piece of shite lowlife doesn’t all of a sudden become an upstanding citizen because they have money.

They are still a lowlife piece of shite. Sometimes money makes it all worse.

Guice's early childhood was really, REALLY bad.

That’s how they’re programmed. They can’t not do it.

I'm guessing the seemingly immediate jump from having nothing to having everything is hard to wrap your mind around... It probably makes some people feel invincible and above reproach.

It's such a bummer to see guys reach that level just to waste their chance.

it's crazy to see the difference in these guys and Tre White (who grew up in a bad area of Shreveport iirc)

White and Mo Claiborne are from a rough part of town. I know White had both parents around so that had to help. We all know Guice’s story, idk much about Baker.

this is actually a very good answer, generally, for people coming from the lower class mindset. that's why it creates such a hard cycle that's so tough to break. again, compare these guys to Tre White's reaction about his new deal

also, the whole "immediate v delayed gratification" issue is a big one. even if you take the new data on the classic marshmellow experiment, the lower class mindset makes delayed gratification much more difficult due to the scarcity mindset it creates. this goes beyond just material needs and prevents people from making decisions within the big picture

agreed. These guys don’t have any impulse control.

This is the answer.
People who grow up in the ghetto or trailer park rarely have the ability to control their emotions. It isn’t the system keeping anyone down, it’s their own inability to think rationally

Being a homer and only reading one or two articles about the Guice situation, I don't want to quite condemn him yet although obviously doesn't look good. The limited details from the articles didn't quite add up.

Obviously a lot of holes in the LSU story also.

A friend of a friend dated Guice at LSU and said he was a known player but in a good way with no bad intentions. I'm hoping this was the case with him and that he's not a Cecil Collins (or worse) type guy.

You basically win the lottery and throw away the ticket.
I get what you're saying and even a part of me agrees.

But if we're talking about a dude who apparently or allegedly has quite the history of treating women this way, think about how shitty of a human being you have to be to do that. Money won't change you being a POS human in most cases.

As I said, I 100% get the argument of saying just don't hit women and you're a millionaire who won't ever have to work again by the time you're 27. But even without the money, one could still say don't hit women and you can avoid jail for the next 5, 10 or 20 years. I'd think that would also be enough to make you not do it.

And as I type all this, i honestly don't even remember if Guice was accused of hitting or sexually assaulting women. Either way, both reprehensible, just wanted to point out if I'm wrong in my above points.

That's because they don't think or act like you, or any other person (black, white or other) who grows up in a stable environment with loving parent(s) who instill values and life lessons at an early age. Really quite sad.
