Dude lit it up back in the 80's when the rules weren't heavily favored toward the offense.

He passed for over 5000 in fricking 1984, passed for over 40 touchdowns in 84 and 86.

I would love to see what he would do in today's game.

He was tailor made for the current era. His release, accuracy, and velocity combination was by far the best I've ever seen, only Rodgers comes close.

He would average over 5k yards a year during his prime in this era.

Imagine if Don Shula had ever given the man a consistent/reliable running game to compliment his passing.

Their defense was also middle of the pack most years, at best. Who were the best defensive players during most of Marino's career? Bryan Cox and John Offerdahl?

Marino masked a lot of deficiencies on those teams IMO.

the Dolphins made back to the AFC Championship the year after losing the Super Bowl to the 49ers in '84.

but New England upset them and faced the Bears in the Super Bowl. got killed too. But it was the Dolphins who were the only team to beat the Bears that year (1985).

the Dolphins also played Buffalo in the AFC Championship in 1992.

so at least they made it to the doorstep of the Super Bowl two more times with Marino if thats worth bragging about

Good point. It's just tough to remember any RB for the Dolphins from 1984 through 1995 that was very good. Mark Higgs was probably the best one he had in that time frame, and he was far from great. He later had Karim Abdul-Jabbar, who was better, but Marino's best years were behind him at that point.

Yeah, Bears fans still lament not getting a rematch with the Dolphins in '85.

No doubt they had a few pretty good teams, but none that warrant a missing rings documentary from NFL Films. Particularly in an era where the NFC had some legitimately great teams and the Bills had 6 future hall of famers.

Haven't thought about those guys in a long time. Shout out to Bernie Parmalee for also being serviceable.

But they all illustrate what little help Marino had in the backfield throughout his career.

Would be GOAT but he'd never get any credit because he'd still suffer from a shitty running game and inconsistent defenses.

I’ve been a lifetime fan of Miami (40 years) and I’m here to say Don Shula sucked. Most overrated coach ever.

Marino was my favorite player of all time. Shoulda got one SBowl and multiple appearances

Wasn't David Overstreet supposed to be that guy? He was supposedly a really promising young RB who died in a car crash early in his career

Off the chart numbers that would make Drew Brees look like a practice squad player.
