What is up with all this mental health and tennis players
You live a country club lifestyle playing tennis while traveling the world.
If it's too much pressure, quit, go get a regular job.

Not an expert on the subject but from what I've read about junior tennis in the past, that shite can be brutal on kids mentally.

I mean I get that but it probably is a mental battle playing a 1 v 1 sport. Basically relying on yourself to win. Definitely shouldn’t be as soft but constantly battling yourself does probably get exhausting.

This is what happens to women when people actually watch their sports

To be fair, tennis at the highest level seems about as emotionally and psychologically taxing as it gets.

Why is it any more taxing than golf or any other individual sport?

Now people aren’t only armchair QB’s, they’re armchair doctors. Your lifestyle and amount of money you make doesn’t prevent mental problems, depression, anxiety, etc

From personal experience, some Tennis parents are the absolute worst.

I think golf is up there as well. Any individual sport has that same emotional component that impacts players during their early life.

Andre Agassi: “Only boxers can understand the loneliness of tennis players - and yet boxers have their corner men and managers. Even a boxer's opponent provides a kind of companionship, someone he can grapple with and grunt at. In tennis you stand face-to-face with the enemy, trade blows with him, but never touch him or talk to him, or anyone else. The rules forbid a tennis player from even talking to his coach while on the court. People sometimes mention the track-and-field runner as a comparably lonely figure, but I have to laugh. At least the runner can feel and smell his opponents. They're inches away. In tennis you're on an island. Of all the games men and women play, tennis is the closest to solitary confinement.”

In tennis, one misstep and that’s it. Injuries can kill your career and you don’t play as long as you can in golf

Andre would be broken by open water swimming.

It’s a product of the generation. These girls were probably worshipped on social media up until this age. Now that they play for millions, it’s a different game. They will soak up the attention, money, fame, and love from fans, but the second they encounter resistance or some crazy idiot on twitter, they want to cry about mental health.

I won’t deny that it’s tough to block out, but once you delete your social account, it’s pretty easy.

We’ve seen a strong uptick in these issues with female athletes. I think it’s pretty easy to connect the dots.
