How many titles would they have they have by now?

I think a team of
PG - Westbrook
SG - Harden
SF - Durant
PF - Ibaka
C - Adams

Would have won the last four or five out of six titles. Had they decided to be cheap then Westbrook was the player to get rid of.

Didnt OKC get the draft pick they used on Adams as part of the Harden trade?

They might have 1 or 2 titles though. The OKC big 3 would’ve still had to get thru the Spurs and Heat big 3, then later thru GSW and Cavs. Even if OKC kept Harden, a title is hardly a given considering the superteams they would have had to beat in that time span

Adams was the 27th ranked prospect in the draft. I think they still get him.

Maybe Gobert falls two more spots instead and an even greater dynasty is started.

0. Horrible chemistry issues. Harden was handcuffed and would have never fully emerged. The Spurs were a beast the next two seasons, after OKC get punked by the Heat. Plus Durant got hurt. They get healthy right as the Warriors start their run. Lots of what ifs, but they needed to be broken up. They just never got enough in return..

A team that counts on James Harden will never win a championship

Maybe one? You're high if you think Harden, Durant, and Westbrook survive on a team with each other.

The better example is:

What if the Thunder go in to the tax for Harden AND their team doc doesn’t torpedo the Tyson Chandler trade a year or so prior? They thought he had a bad foot. Went on to have many great years after that.

Would have had:

Westbrook
Harden
KD
Ibaka
Chandler

That’s a legitimate dynasty roster. If you remove Chandler though, there’s absolutely no guarantee it’s good enough in my opinion. Harden grew exponentially when he became option #1 instead of option #3.

Meh. There are quotes from battier during the finals where he says harden was okc best player. Harden was the focus of the heat D. They knew if they throw everything at him and let kd and Russ get theirs they would win. It was a Winning strategy.

I know reading comprehension is tough bubba, but nowhere in my post did I say Harden was the 3rd best player. I said he was the #3 option. Not sure what’s so hard there. I mean he was coming off the damn bench.

And it’s absolute fact that he ascended to new heights once he became the focal point of a new team’s offense. We will never know what he would have looked like during the same time frame in OKC.

By the way, you telling and re-telling this story repeatedly of the Heat focusing on Harden never ceases to make me laugh. Did the Heat also pay off strippers to make sure he partied late in to the night in South Beach? The dude (albeit he was still very young) didn’t show up at all in the Finals despite having a brilliant series previous vs the Spurs.

Adams was consistently talked about as a top 15 guy during the combine and after. He was Portland’s second option if McCollum was gone.
