The academic portion was targeted at K-State with basketball towards KU. KU also just hired Northwestern’s Deputy AD, and a large part of the search process dealt with realignment. KU is an easy fit in the B1G.

Pac 12 ain't taking Texas Tech (academics) or Baylor (religion).

OSU has enough money to sue the sht out of OU for breaking a state contract. BUT OU will leave.

WVA to the ACC.

KU AND Iowa St to the Big 10.

My guess is Tech, TCU, Baylor, KSU and OSU stay together, offer Houston and SMU and see about getting BYU and Boise St.

It'll dissolve like the old SWC. Arkansas departing for the SEC and SMU getting the death penalty were the killshot

I am almost certain we go back to a G5 conference like the AAC. I have a lot of contacts high up in the TCU athletic department and the consensus seems to be... not good. A pitch will be made to the ACC and Pac 12 but the ACC is likely just going to go with WVU and Notre Dame. The Pac 12 is the only option but its going to take some convincing.

The main thing the athletic department is worried about is TV money. The $40 million a year we get from the Big 12 pays a lot of salaries, pays for a lot of facilities. If we go back to the $7 million we git in the Mountain West, lots of people are going to lose their jobs.

It was fun while it lasted. I think as soon as we are relegated, Patterson retires. And our program drops off and becomes just another SMU or Houston.

Texas Tech and TCU would rather go independent than invite SMU and Houston to join a conference with them

There is no way the Big Ten takes Iowa State. Texas Tech is a no go as well.

A ND and PSU package to the ACC would really shake things up. Would basically consolidate control of the Eastern seaboard from the Carolinas to New England from a sports interest standpoint.

How can I say this politely? Texas Tech doesn’t have the academic prowess to impress anyone in the Big 10

You can say that because they don’t. Kansas will go to the Big 10. Now whom else, if Missouri gets an invite as well, could see them jumping ship. That’s where they always wanted to be. So you could see either TTech or Okie state coming along with UT and Oklahoma

College football becomes a complete regional sport like college baseball

That’s my guess

Would you REALLY ever want to see SEC schools playing non-SEC schools ever? I wouldn’t. What would be the point?

Just add Clemson and Ohio State and yeah then youre done

I could see that as the interesting compromise - Mizzou gets "encouraged" to go to the Big 10 along with Kansas, so that Okie St gets invited to the SEC along with Okie and Texas.

Notre Dame and WVU to the ACC. Pac-12 gets relegated to mid-level status with MWC and AAC.

Notre Dame and WVU to ACC sounds good on paper but Notre Dame sees themselves above EVERYONE in the ACC and they definitely would want to have terms on who they are joining with and it won't be WVU.

Plus the majority of ACC sees themselves above WVU.

Some of the schools will want WVU but probably not half.

Sadly I feel like WVU will get left out in the cold. College Football will become a regional sport in the South and only major population centers outside of the south will be able to complete. We're going to see the death of college football as we know it.

Also look at the timing of this article.

NBA- done
NHL just finished expansion draft - done
MLB All Star break is done, regular season baseball is all that's left until October.
NFL first preseason game is 2 weeks away and preseason isn't that interesting anyway.

Feels like sports went back to the college realignment well because it attracts a lot of eyeballs and fear porn for some teams. There hasn't been any major moves in ~7 years.

WVU, Kansas, Oklahoma State, KSU, Baylor, ISU, TCU and Texas Tech all have fairly large followings and have recent successes in different sports.
