What happens to CP3?
Who can afford his contract, and how much does he have left in the tank? Is there a good fit for him?

re: What happens to CP3?
I mean either OKC waits out his contract while they rebuild or they buy him out.

That just seems like a huge contract to buyout. And what’s the point of buying it out?

I feel like he’ll be dealt at some point. Same with Gallo. By 2023 comes around, OKC is going to have 1/3 of the 1st round picks.

Buy out and signs with the Lakers. No way in hell OKC keeps him.

He just needs to accept whatever scraps the Lakers can pay him and get his ring and go home

I don’t understand this. Why?

They have something to use that cap space on? It’s a horrible contract for any team trying to compete but obviously OKC isn’t

re: What happens to CP3?
Why do people assume he’s leaving/getting bought out? The thunder seem to be in full on rebuild. Having a player like Paul around to mentor all the young guys they’re about to start bringing in sounds like a good idea. As shitty as paul’s contract is, it’s better for them financially than wesrbrook’s was.

The trade makes sense at least somewhat for the thunder. It doesn’t make sense at all for Houston.

re: What happens to CP3?
He has 3 years left at 38, 41 and 44 mil. Can you just agree to give someone 100 mil to void the rest of their deal and get them off your cap?

No one wants that deal.

re: What happens to CP3?
I just have a hard time seeing OKC giving him 120mil just to walk away.

But this has been one crazy offseason so it probably will happen

Exactly. He’ll either be dealt to Miami (less value than Westbrook and Miami might not have had the assets to get him) or they play the year out and deal him next year during the weak FA class.

re: What happens to CP3?
Because they are in full rebuild mode and would rather give those minutes to young players (SGA and Schroder) and develop them rather than waste those minutes on someone who doesn’t want to be there anyway. You don’t trade away two superstars for picks and give minutes to the rotting corpse of Chris Paul.

As for dealing him, no one wants him at that salary, I can assure you that.

I just don't see buying out 3 years of a max contract is practical, if it's even possible. They may try to move him, but I can't see them being able to buy him out anytime soon.

Has any max contract with multiple years remaining been bought out before?

OKC buys him out, he finally gets his wish to play with the Lakers and signs for the minimum, then he and Rondo spit in each other’s faces and fistfight during the first team scrimmage

re: What happens to CP3?
Lebron convinced AD to throw 4 million in the shitter so they could sign boogie cousins, I’m sure he could find a way to make the buyout happen

re: What happens to CP3?
Will these teams ever learn to stop giving old washed up veterans long term max contracts?
