Miami just threw away their game in OT six inches from the end zone by running it from the shotgun.
Your QB is huge, why not run the QB sneak?
It almost always works.

NFL coaches don't seem to run it nearly as much as they should.

They should’ve just handed off the ball to Gore.

I would fire every OC, college or pro, if they ever ran the shotgun on 3rd or 4th and 4yds or less to go. The stupidity of this is mind bottling.

The QBs now are not accustomed to getting under center. They've been running shotgun offenses since high school. So, now if a defense sees a QB get under center that normally doesn't they stack and defend the sneak.

3rd or 4th and 4yds

Good thing you’ll never be in the position to make that decision.

How many times have you seen a team run the ball from under center on 4th and 4 and get the first down?

How many times in both college and Pro have we seen goal line stands or 4th and 1 and everyone is bunched in tight and the RB can't even make an inch or gets tackled behind the LOS?

Look at Stanford this year...a few weeks ago they had 3 chances for a yard and bunched everyone in tight, even brought in an extra TE and the dude lost yardage on every play.

This used to be the biggest complaint among CFB and NFL fans with conservative coaches. Now it's - oh, lets go back to that - telegraphing what you're going to do to the defense and narrow the field.

Any coach would tell you they'd prefer 3rd and goal from the 5 than 3rd and goal from the 2. It creates space and opens up the field. Shotgun is doing the same thing with run/pass or sprint right options and wider tackle splits for holes.

it puts the onus on your players to win the game. When you don't get that one yard, they take the blame and not the coach

this is way overblown. The argument for the QB sneak is valid; now, whether it's shotgun or under center handoff occurs about the same distance from the LOS...unless they're doing the quick handoff to the FB.

Coaches are nervous to run their franchise into the teeth of the defense

Not saying I agree, but I imagine that has a lot to do with it

Yeah, no...plus, in the shotgun, your RB is waiting... flat-footed...for...the... hand-off...zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Meanwhile, the DL is crashing.
When the QB is under center, the RB is taking the hand-off with a full head of steam towards the line of scrimmage.

Not every team has Drew Brees. He can so eloquently go over the top with the hand strength to hold onto the ball until he crosses the plain.
