The answer is Elway but in MJ’s defense he did score 51 while either 39 or 40 years old

How bad were the Wizards then? Elway is the best example I could think of since he went out as a back to back champ while still playing at an elite level. A lot of the other names mentioned were not playing at an elite level when they rode into the sunset or were stuck on mediocre or sorry teams.

Kobe scoring 60 and being extremely clutch down the stretch was pretty awesome. He had a nice speech after the game as well.
Manning got carried to a Super Bowl, but it was probably fun for him to go out on top, even though he literally played one of the worst seasons of all time for a QB in the modern era that year.
Dale Earnhardt probably had the worst farewell ending to a career.
Tiger winning another major and retiring would be storybook. He arguably should’ve done it after that last Masters victory.

You think tiger should have retired after the asters victory when he was still one of the top golfers in the world?

That Masters victory was his first major win in a decade. Yes, I think he should’ve considered retirement. He was playing solid then, but he wasn’t anywhere near dominant. He was just a top 30 ish guy who could win here and there if things broke right, but not anything like he was in his heyday.

John Elway and Peyton Manning, for starters.

Jerome Bettis winning a SB in his hometown.
Most athletes don't have "the best farewell ending to their career" because the vast majority don't know when to walk away.

Yeah, came to post Barry Sanders. Retired after a 1,500 yard rushing season because he didn't want to break Walter Payton's record.
