What athlete had the best farewell ending to their career?

Was watching Federer's last match and couldn't help but remember how most all time greats go out losing.

What athletes went out winning it all then retiring?

MJ if you pretend the Wizards years never happened.

What?

You could have just said, “not MJ.”

Bettis won the Superbowl at home in Detroit.

Kobe scored 60 in his final game.

Pete Sampras

He's my pick. Most of the men who went out "on top" won championships as role players/minor contributors on teams. Sampras won the U.S. Open Final against his greatest rival, Andre Agassi in his final match as a professional. He didn't rely on teammates or anybody else to win it for him. He won it on his own. It doesn't get better than that.
