You have got to admit they are fading fast this day in age and Alabama has only grew in terms of being known. Maybe ten fifteen years ago they were close but times are changing.

Plus add in they may have to change their mascot. That mascot is a part of their fame in my book. Knowing Notre Dame May never be dominant at football again also helps me believe they are done growing in fame.

Also, lol the number of Catholics are actually declining, including in the USA.

Just passed them in all-time wins. FWIW

Dodgers over Cubs.

This is true, primarily because of the history with the Brooklyn dodgers/NY Yankees subway series.

Cubs were anonymous before WGN went cable.

I disagree, I knew about the Cubs long before I knew about WGN, including the so called curse. Also, WGN never had the reach WTBS did.

Giants or Steelers over Packers. Bears were bigger than Packers over most of the NFL history.

Not true at all. The packers won 1 more title pre Super Bowl era. 3 more pre merger, 4 more overall. In truth, if we are using championships as a benchmark, the teams with the most overall rings are the Packers (13-4) and the Bears(9-9), followed closely by the Giants (8-13). Note that in appearances the order is flipped. 13-4 is amazing. There is a reason Green Bay is called Title Town.

UCLA over UNC. Over history, you could probably say Kentucky over Duke.

I agree with those statements, I will say that 10 of UCLA’s 11 championships came under Wooden. And that run started in 1964 with 1962 being their first time in a final four.

But ultimately, UCLA and Kentucky have won the most and had the most finals appearances, followed closely by North Carolina. Kentucky and North Carolina over a longer period but that doesn’t invalidate UCLA’s period of dominance.

I understand your point, but I'd have to go with New York in terms of "fame."

I mean, this year the Eagles and the Patriots played in the Super Bowl, and the NFL allowed a 3-win team (or whatever the Giants' record is) upstage them both in a commercial.

I think that was more of a personalities thing. Funny though.

NCAA baseball: USCw and LSU

Texas and LSU.

USC has the most titles, but only one of them in the ESPN era. And they have been irrelevant for two decades now.

Nobody cared about or had even seen college baseball until ESPN got the rights to the CWS.

There was a story of a USC grad - japanese - who had a POW Notre Dame grad and noticed his ring and after a Japanese soldier stole his ND grad ring, the Japenese officer ordered the soldier to give it back to him...saying that he remembered him running all over USC in a 1934 football game and that as a USC grad, he would treat the ND soldier with the utmost respect. And he gave the ring back to the Notre Dame player and protected him throughout the war

Thread isn't exactly my favorite, but it was worth it just to read that story.

Especially add in what Bama has done recently, and they own college football and it’s not even close. Some younger fans prolly don’t even know who Notre Dame is, and I’m being serious.

Lol, you're right. They probably only know of Notre Dame's greatness from the numerous movies made about the Fighting Irish. How many movies have they made about Bama? Does Forest Gump count?

Everyone knows I guess that it's Manchester United and Liverpool.

But what is the most famous (briefly) MLS teams?

Greatest college game

I know it may be too recent and people dont like using modern games as "best of all time"

But the best college bball game ever has to be UNC vs Nova two years ago in the NCAA championship, combining the weight of the game and the outcome

It seemed far fetched, but I wanted it to be real.

Is that because of the Mexican audience?

Or because of Beckham?

I think if I went to China and tried to explain what American sport is...

CFB would be Notre Dame (they haven't won much of late but their flame still burns
Age factors in as well.

I'm 28 and ND barely even enters my mind when thinking of CFB.
