He has made 5 straight NCAA tourneys.

4 of the 5 times, he has lost to a lower seed. The only higher seed team he lost to was Florida....by 26 points...and that was a 4-5 matchup

Apparently, defense doesn't win championships.

I have to admit that ESPN got me with their play on words

Syracuse (23-13), which trailed by 16 at the start of the second half

Virginia would jew-ball teams to death all season, by being super efficient and playing lockdown defense. That was their game and it worked great for them all year. Combine the fact lost a key player, had their most inefficient game of the season, while UMBC hit 12 threes and shot 54%. It was the perfect storm

In fairness, that MSU team was the most underseeded team in recent history. They should have been a 3 or 4 seed and proved it by rolling to the Final Four.

I'm not sure why everyone's shitting on Tony Bennett. Yes, that was an awful loss yesterday, and their style of play isn't for everyone, but Virginia had been dogshit since the Ralph Sampson era before he got there. His system allows teams with lesser athletes to blow through an ACC season

Can a knowledgeable cbb fan explain to me why Bennett doesn’t think offense is important?

Offensive efficiency is a politically correct way of saying “our offense cannot score points”

They were ranked 315th in ppg

Their offense shits the bed in every big tourney Game

They play the slowest pace in the country, so the philosophy is to make the most out of every possession while playing stout defense. It’s not a bad strategy, but it doesn’t work if you fall behind.

It speaks more to pace of play than scoring ability

Maybe because he doesn’t build teams to succeed in the Dance. And....that’s kind of what this whole thing is ultimately about.
