Can do it frame by frame. Crazy that he did pitch it backwards but running back caught it almost a yard ahead. Yes, I know it is physics but still pretty interesting.

Looked like a lateral in real time to me.

It does look like a lateral in real time because the eyes see Wilson pitching it backwards

I don’t know what I’m missing that that keeps getting called a lateral. It was clearly pitched backwards.

He didn't pitch it backwards and it isn't physics. It's the angle of the camera and the curve of the field.

He pitches the ball at 47-yard-line and it's caught at like the 47 1/2 yard line. Sorry for the blurry photo, best I could pull from the source

Don't really see this cause an issue like this in many sports aside from soccer. People get hung up on offsides calls all the time because of the tv camera and the way it curves the field and player locations.

The rule states guy catching it can’t catch it in front of where it was pitched. Motion takes the ball forward but that is the rule.

You don’t have the right frame. Snapshoot the frame right after it leaves Wilson’s hand. Ball is behind him.

I didn’t see it in the game and I had to watch it a few times to see it caught ahead of the point of release.

Ball is clearly out and away from Wilson's body here in this still and it's still behind where the RB catches the ball.

Because motion will take the ball ahead another yard. That shot is good enough to show he pitched it backwards (only way for ball to be behind Wilson). Next stillshot right after that would be best

It's not where you catch it.

It's all about the throw ball was going backwards obviously.

He throws it as the 43 and it's caught at the 42..

That's a lateral.

Nope. By rule it is where u catch it in relation to where it was released.
