i agree with you. I caught some hard throwers and hit against a few. It helps to know what you're looking for.

I am always amazed at the skill MLB catchers show on waste pitches or bad pitches. To block and kill balls coming that fast or with that much spin is amazing

The moment it's released, they react. They know what's coming and where it will end up depending on release point. Ever see what happens when a MLB catcher is crossed up?

They have seen it but I would agree they have never faced it, and the # is more like 99.9%

Those are a lot of fun, especially if they are very accurate. All you have to do is get the timing down. If they throw in the exact same place each time with a little practice you can rake on them and impress everyone even though what you are doing takes very little skill!

Pitching machines are hardly ever accurate because you never know how/where it will grip the laces. 95 from a machine will move all over the place.

Well first of all not all machines use arms and not all balls in cages have laces. We used to have a Pro Batter machine that could throw fastballs, sliders, curves etc. It had a video screen and you saw a video of a pitcher. It had two spinning wheels that moved around so or could throw curves and sliders and the ball was always within 2 inches of where you programmed of to be. I would program it to throw 95mph fastballs based on 60 feet and the plate was only 40 feet away so or came in WAY faster but after a few days of practice I could hit 10 out of 10 almost everytime. You could barely see the ball but I just knew when to start my swing and it impressed the shite out of everyone!

Here is a link to a video on the ProBatter machines

I've hit off of those before. Place in Harahan. I couldn't get used to the video of the pitchers.

It took me awhile but I worked there at the time so I hit off of it for 30-45 minutes a day before we opened. I took about 50 fastballs a day in the exact same place at the highest speed and I could hit every one. If I didn't know its fastest pitch was coming, or where it was coming, I had no chance though. NONE!

I played baseball all through high school and I faced one guy that went pro (drafted by Pittsburgh) Before I faced him, the hardest thrower I had ever seen sat around 91-94 but with little movement and he didnt really have any secondary pitches. Wasnt too tough after seeing a couple of pitches.

Anyways, it was like a complete different world when I faced the guy that went pro. He was hitting 94-96 all day with ridiculous tailing movement (I'm a lefty). He had a pretty good curve and a sick change. I thought I threw my back out swinging at an 0-2 changeup one at bat. That was the one and only time in my high school career I wore the golden sombrero

I know :csb:

i don't even get how you can decide whether to swing.

Its really not that hard once you get the timing down (which can be after 2-3 consistent pitches)

To me, Yu Darvish has some of the nastiest movement in his pitches that I have ever seen.
