Sigh.

Vanessa Bryant has sued the owner of the helicopter that crashed in fog and killed Kobe and her 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, last month. The wrongful death lawsuit says the pilot was careless and negligent by flying in cloudy conditions and should have aborted the flight.

It's probably a requirement from their insurance provider.

Sigh.
this is standard procedure, considering his estate will likely get sued.
Don't think she was sitting there thinking I need to sue these guys.

It’s not going to bring them back and I doubt you need the money.

I get that she's angry and upset, that's understandable, but the guy actually responsible, the pilot, is dead.

It's also not like she needs the money either.

It's clearly being done out of anger, which is somewhat forgivable, but still, she's just lashing out.

The helicopter didn't kill him. It was the mountain

No it not. She is likely required by both his life insurance policy and his umbrella insurance policy. His estate is going to be sued, he rented the helicopter, by the other victims and their insurance companies.

Just being devil's advocate BUT, what if the helicopter company was negligent in policies and procedures and put pressure on pilots to fly in risky conditions? What if the pilot was responsible for the physical accident but was under pressure to make flights like this from the company to keep the clientele happy? It probably is not the case, but I'd want the company held responsible for that culture and changed to prevent this from happening in the future. Maybe the pilots requested improved technology on board to help in those type of conditions but were told that the company wouldn't do it? There are more people to shoulder some blame rather than just the pilot.

Can the pilot's family sue Kobe's estate for Kobe making him fly in those conditions?

I thought about that, but if there’s no black box, there’s likely no proof one way or another whose call it was.

There were six other passengers who died on the flight. She could be suing the company more for those families than anybody else.

That's my point.

It's much more likely Kobe said we can't miss this than a pilot flying in those conditions. Especially since Kobe had a history of hot dogging it in the helicopter to scare people.

I don't know what the sigh is about. If it's proven to be pilot error for even taking off, that's something the pilot should have been adamant about. I am assuming due diligence and don't be reckless are rules with private aviation.
