Prosecutors say suspended Virginia Tech linebacker Isimemen Etute beat a man to death after he discovered the victim was not a woman like he had been led to believe online.

Etute was charged with second-degree murder June 2 in the death of Blacksburg, Virginia, resident Jerry Smith. Etute, a member of Virginia Tech's 2021 recruiting class, was suspended from the team after he was charged.

According to those police statements, Etute visited the victim's apartment on April 10 for oral sex after he was matched up with someone named "Angie" on Tinder. Etute returned to the apartment May 31 to engage in sexual activity and discovered the person he was matched up with was a man.

Etute told the police he punched the victim five times in the face and continued punching them when the person hit the ground and "stomped" on them. He heard "bubbling and gurgling" as he left the apartment, but didn't call the police.

I really don’t get how people get catfished these days anymore. It’s fairly obvious to tell when someone isn’t who they’re putting themselves out there to be. Then you kill the guy and confess? What a dumbass.

No clue how that happened, and I can certainly see how a dude could be angered enough to get violent there.

But killing a dude is killing a dude. I don't know shite about the law but interesting to see it is 2nd degree murder and not manslaughter.

I’m sure being catfished by a man is very embarrassing. Having sex with that person is probably 100 times more embarrassing.

But you know what’s even more embarrassing than that? Having the whole country find out about this because you killed the man afterwards and then likely spending the next 25 year in prison known as the guy who killed the man who catfished him.

Well, it's like the poet Tone Loc once wrote:

quote:

I went up to this girl, she said, "Hi, my name is Sheena"
I thought she'd be good to go with a little Funky Cold Medina
She said, "I'd like a drink," I said, "Ehm - ok, I'll go get it"
Then a couple sips she cold licked her lips, and I knew that she was with it
So I took her to my crib, and everything went well as planned
But when she got undressed, it was a big old mess, Sheena was a man
So I threw him out, I don't fool around with no Oscar Meyer wiener
You must be sure that the girl is pure for the Funky Cold Medina

You know, ain't no plans with a man
This is the 80's, and I'm down with the ladies

Etute was granted a $75,000 bond at Wednesday's hearing and is allowed to live with family in Virginia Beach until his trial. Per media accounts from those at the hearing, multiple Virginia Tech players were in attendance.

Offensively low bond, and not a great look for the team.

I'd be interested to see what Virginia's definition of sexual assault is. If it includes language about employing deceit or misrepresentation, the victim can be presented as a sexual predator, which may warrant the state to consider a manslaughter plea.

Being tricked into engaging in sexual activity with a man is unbelievably violating. I see it almost like a soft form of being raped. He has to live with that experience for the rest of his life.

I don’t know what his punishment should be for losing his mind for a minute and beating the guy senseless, but I have to say, it’s understandable.

So you're saying he shouldn't have beaten the guy to death?

Whoa, careful out on that ledge with that bold take!

He had already met with this person once and apparently this dude sucked his dick if I’m reading it right. And during the second encounter he discovered its a guy. Who knows what they were doing when he made that discovery.

Seems like a little more than a “frick you” type of exit.

Just don't look at the thread if you have nothing to add.

Seems like a solid angle for manslaughter but you still derailed your life tremendously and will have 20-40 years in jail to marinate on that.

Perfect scenario for my question of how many years in prison would you have to be sentenced to legitimately think about killing yourself… this dude has no kids and will spend the prime of his life in a hellhole.

I’d prolly just end it if I were him. Prolly get my dick sucked by an actual female one more time before I go though.
