Recently fired Houston Texans general manager Brian Gaine “targeted” African American employees in a series of firings during his tenure, a former Texans security coordinator alleged in a complaint filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

quote:

Jeff Pope, who was notified he would not be retained by the team May 8, made a series of allegations in a 4,500-word charge of discrimination complaint obtained by USA TODAY Sports early Thursday morning. Gaine was fired by the Texans on Friday with little insight into the move disclosed by the team.

quote:

Pope, who is African American, listed eight other African Americans who were allegedly fired by Gaine after he took over as GM in January 2018.

“It appeared, and I believe, that he was targeting all minorities in leadership positions and was set to replace them with non-African-Americans. Which he did,” Pope wrote in the complaint.

Pope wrote that it became evident that African Americans were “being singled out/targeted” when Gaine allegedly chastised him in December for eating in the players’ cafeteria as he’d done since his arrival in 2017.

“In short, every African American in the building understood that not too many of us could congregate or be seen interacting with each other even during lunch because it did not look good to the powers that be,” Pope alleged.

The people being fired and complaining about it weren’t players.

The Texans do have the least amount of swagger in the league.

Every player with swag quickly exits. Dj swearinger, Tyrann

Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s systemic

Not unusual for a new GM to fire people and hire "his people". I notice the article doesn't say if any non-black employees were fired.

You telling me that different bosses have different rules! Outrageous!

Going to the racist card for all your ills in life has really been played out in society.

And this lawsuit is going to be impossible to prove.

All he has to do is say, hey...IMO I looked at the entire organization and who sucked at their jobs and it just so happens a disproportionate amount of them were African-American.

Is this the thread Today where all the white people tell all the black people that there is no racism and defend somebody who was clearly shitty st their job?

Yep. Racism has been solved. Just ask the upper middle class white people.

The timing and sudden nature of the guy’s firing made me think it was a metoo situation. But this makes sense too.

Maybe he was just bad when he was there?

LINK
quote:

He was ranked the 71st best safety in the NFL out of 86 for the 2013 NFL season.

Pro Football Focus ranked him the 78th best safety out of 87 during the 2014 season.

On May 11, 2015, the Houston Texans released Swearinger.[24] It was reported they had attempting to trade Swearinger the past few weeks, the main cause being his reluctance to play special teams.[25] He was also involved with multiple incidents including a reported theft involving his truck and his dog biting the Houston Texans' first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Jadeveon Clowney (See Personal life).

Let's not forget that Tyrann was a free agent who signed there on a 1 year deal and then the Chiefs offered him a 14 mil/yr contract.

Swearinger (for timing and other explanantions) and TM aren't the best examples of systemic racism from the Texans.

The dude sucked as a GM, but him firing several black people during a regime change doesn’t make him a racist. This is one dude making these claims and disgruntled employees have done more extreme things to get back at their former employer.

Not saying that’s the case. I don’t know the dude. But even if it isn’t true this will follow the guy for the rest of his life regardless of if these statements are found to be totally false.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but he definitely upped his game in Washington. He led the 'Skins in INTs and deflected balls last season and Pro Football Focus rated him as the NFL's best safety at one point last year.

However, he was let go because he publicly criticized the team and coaches - some would argue he was only saying out loud what everyone else felt.

The point is more that the Texans like to have the most bland boring roster possible. DJ went on to be a good safety else where which is a shame because ballhawk and shite talker is exactly what those teams needed

The Texans need to move to Katy if they are going to continue to be as bland of brand
