Right b/c singing the anthem at a basketball game really show members of the military how much you care.
I mean, that's LITERALLY what we do it for.

God we're so fricked.

Why Isn’t it common at sporting events or at least was?

I remember several years some NFL players ignorant of history were more respectful for God Save the Queen than our anthem before one of the NFL games in London.

Yeah we're fricked b/c the anthem isn't being played at Mavs game so you can't show people how big your patriotism boner is. All the soldiers are now going to go to bed sad b/c now they'll think people don't care about them. Okay.

It has nothing to do with the anthem. We're fricked because our country is crawling with people pushing the idea that ignorantly hating on tradition is cool. You criticize and mock when you don't even have a full understanding of what it is you criticize. It just makes you look stupid.

I’m 30 and it’s part of my generation and the youngsters coming up that think this way. It’s wild to me that so many others around my age just don’t see the point in honoring those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for the opportunity to have the freedom to attend, watch or play the game for millions of dollars.

Kinda disturbing they won’t honor the country that made them all so insanely rich.

frick the Mavericks and Cuban.

The NBA might be the most high jacked sports league in modern history.

No, but they do play it before the FA cup and League Cup finals.

The UK also arrests people for things they say on social media.

So I’d personally prefer to be the complete opposite of them.

I'm ignorant for calling things out for what they are? Again, if it was that big a deal all people would actually know the words and would actually stop everything and stand at attention for the anthem. That simply doesn't happen. We don't even sing all the lyrics. There are three more stanzas that are never even taught.

I'm not even hating on the anthem. I'm simply saying it's not that big a deal that it's not being played at Mavs games this year especially when in normal non COVID years you get thousands at every single sporting event that pay no attention to it at all. I'm an Aggie. I fill jizz jar upon jizz jar for tradition. I'm just not going to freak out when something isn't done and I can recognize sporting events aren't some sacred cow that require the anthem when literately no other entertainment event in this country does.

Which is exactly what happened in this country every single time shite hit the fan and everyone had the military on their minds from WWI to 9/11.

The relationship between the anthem and some americans is like that of part-time christians and God. When things are fine it doesn't even get a second thought, but when things in your life are threatened and you don't feel safe, all of a sudden they're a prayer warrior.

Just because citizens grow spoiled and unappreciative doesn't change the meaning and intent.

What

I was honestly asking cause I'm legit curious if this is some commonplace thing across the world or if its just something we do

Play the song or don't. Who cares. Personally, I've never understood why its become SOP at games to begin with. But its not like I'm campaigning for it to go away and its dumb that the mavs just had to make an announcement for something they've already been doing all year

9/11? You mean when the government used a terrorist attack to whip everyone up into a frenzy and started two needless wars we didn't need to get into? Really awesome respect towards out troops there.

The only thing we should have done after 9/11 was to send in a hit squad Munich style to kill the frick out of Osama. Starting two wars under guise of patriotism was a crime against the people serving in the military. Full stop.

I'm not here to judge your tinfoil hat. I'm simply talking about the nation's response to tragedy.

Is being critical of how the government got us into the Iraq war even really that crazy of an opinion to have?

Because there’s alot of people who have given a lot to make this country happen, and it’s been a relatively safe environment for millions of people for a long time, and lifted millions out of poverty for decades. Our system works here. We’re all sitting here typing this in our nice comfortable dwellings. The least these super rich sports people could do would be to honor the nation that made them and so many others more money than they’d have living anywhere else. It’s really not debatable. It’s okay for someone to be the boss, and in turn America is a good boss who helps millions of people.
