I would respectfully disagree. When Fed realizes he isn't winning a match, he checks tf out. Been doing it his entire career. Shankerer is not a recent phenomenon.
See, e.g, this Grantland article from 2012 referencing a "Strange Federer Softness"

Brian Phillips was such a good tennis writer. I mean, I suppose he still could be, if he still did.

Sometimes you get the sense that he feels he’s proved his point in the early games and expects the rest of the match to fall into line out of courtesy. And if it doesn’t, if things don’t work out as a logical extension of those first few games, he’s taken aback. It’s not that he lacks the mental strength to compete, more that he loses his decision-making ability because he’s genuinely perplexed.

Federer's shanks usually come from the backhand wing though. Federer was spraying errors left and right from his forehand and his overheads weren't even reaching the net. Guy just looked tired.

But yet Federer had come back 10 times in his career from being down 2 sets to love, probably more than any other active player

This match shows smug needs to hang it up with that nice bagel in the third. Hopefully djokovic can win twenty this weekend. Smug is done winning slams. I’m not sure nadal has any left - really last shots are us open this year and french next couple of years and that’s if he can stay healthy.

Didn’t they teach you anything at Tennessee club tennis?

Even if that were true, which I'm not sure it is, he was playing arse tennis during the second set breaker. The match was far from over.
Also, I'm used to seeing him spray and shank backhands over the course of his career. But dumping forehand after forehand into the net was surprising.

Fed got his arse beat. Also, the wife thinks matteo bertinni is sexy.

That's all well and good, and isn't in any way inconsistent with the frequent appearances of his well-known alter-ago, Shankerer.

I'd bang him if I were a chick.

When Shankerer makes his appearance, bottom-of-the-net forehands are par for the course as well.

I would imagine your getting double bageled in the first round of qualies to get into that challenger you never got in but are so fond of talking about probably gives you a great deal of insight into getting bageled. Touche.

Only one at a time, bro.
And, you can pray to the alter of Alejandro Falla on grass till you're blue in the face, but Shankerer is very real.

Oh god no.
Nadal will keep trying to grind out every single point even when he is getting thoroughly whipped. Once Fed decides he no longer wants to be on the court, full-blown Shankerer takes his places.

The fact that a moniker that was banned like ten years ago is still in your head speaks volumes.
bobby 4 president.

Two points:
1) You're so bad at this.
2) 9 ATP level wins (the mighty Peter Wessels in the first round of the 2000 US Open retired...not counting that) after being down 2 sets out of 1,600 matches isn't terribly remarkable, to be honest. Krickstein had 10 in nearly a thousand fewer attempts. Becker and Murray have 10 against better plays in about 600 fewer attempts.
So, yeah, try to find a meaningful metric to show us all how Fed relishes the grind. Take as much time as you need. Snack on a bagel while conducting your research.
