Draws have been released.
LINK

Pretty cruel for Rafa. He is in Novak's quarter and has tough young guy Coric in the first round. Fed's quarter looks pretty easy. I expect Wawrinka/Murray in their quarter, though Murray has Kyrgios first round. Nishikori's is going to get blown up as he has been injured and Ferrer is in there. Perhaps Tsonga or Cilic get through there.

The Ashe roof is not complete, so rain will still be an issue. I think CBS coverage is no more and it's all ESPN, with some Tennis Channel supplemental. God willing, we are back to a Sunday final. I don't think there has been one since 2007 or 2008 with rain all of these years and a scheduled Monday final the last few. Looks like mens semis are on Friday. I love Saturday matches, but they finally got this right.

I would like to see Mardy Fish close out his career with a win or two after returning from heart and anxiety issues.

Oh, and Serena is going for a calendar slam and to slam the door on GOAT IMO.

The Nike street tennis promo this week had some cool pics. I wonder what Grigor and his ex slam pieces were thinking.

I know I could be biased but has Rafa ever gotten a good slam ever? And has Fed ever gotten a bad one?

Idk if he can keep it up for the stretch of a Grand Slam, but Fed was incredible last week. I don't know how he does it, and I've always been a Rafa over him guy, but damn the way he's still doing it is pretty incredible.

I think Rafa's U.S. Open wins and Wimbledon 2010 were joke draws.

At the level he was playing at that time I think almost any draw would be a joke draw, but that's fair enough.

Seems like he hasn't gotten the benefit of the doubt as he's aged, though.

Yes, for a number of years Fed had to play Djok in semis and then Nadal in final. Brutal two matches.

Mostly because his seed has been terrible and that is his fault.

Well dropping to 8th in the world is going to make his draws a lot harder.

i mean, it's not his age that is the reason why he's faltering. the dude isn't anywhere near the player he once was.

Do they change the times that the players will play as they go along. I'm trying to figure out who I may see during the afternoon session on September 6th.

That's a weird spot. You're into round of 16, so it will probably be just Ashe/Armstrong/grandstand. The good news is there shouldn't be any total scrubs left by that point. On the middle weekend, CBS used to hog the top players for the day session, which would have helped you. Since ESPN has everything now, they probably don't care so much when everyone plays over the weekend.

...and the second half of your sentence is not related to the first?

That was a rhetorical question. It obviously is. Rafa was never going to age well, and now we see that he's not aging well.

Hey may very well lose to Coric.

That's a rough first round matchup up for Murray too. Kyrgios is dangerous. He's got real firepower, and his buddy bangs mad bitches, and may have banged your bitch.

But at least easier than dropping to 10th.

I'm also biased, and I haven't really noticed Rafa getting comparatively tough draws, but it does seem like Federer always always gets a comparatively easy draw.

He always wins Cincy. It's a very fast court.

Agreed on both points. I think hiring Edberg was the best decision he could have made. He can play high quality tennis at 34 because he's shortening points by attacking. Incidentally, this is exactly what Rafa needs to do if he wants to have any chance of getting back to contending for a major, and this is something that he definitely CAN do (i.e. he has the skills to play an attacking style), but it's something that he never WILL do. He's too set in his ways and style.

The contenders, in order of likelihood (as determined by me, off the top of my head):

1. Djoke
2. Murray
3. Kei
4. Fed (he wins cincy every year, so let's not get carried away with the conclusions we draw from that)
5. Stan
6. Cilic
-----
128. Mardy Fish

Last year at the US he had his best chance but Cilic was lights out. Fed is still playing too well to count him out. i sure hope he finds a way to get #18

Injury free, I agree. This guy has really impressed me the last year. But the report last week was he had a hip injury and was having trouble with his mobility. Hip injuries usually don't just heal. Either need some extensive time off or surgery.

Djoker is the clear favorite.

Fed has to be on the list, but as I've said in the other GS post, I just can't see him winning another GS in a 3 out of 5 format.

And as pointed out in my post last week re: Cincy, Fed made it pretty clear in his post-match interview on ESPN that Cincy's surface, as well as the balls they were using, is completely different from the surface and balls at US Open, so his success at Cincy shouldn't be viewed as any ort of indicator as to how he will play at US Open.
