Gary Danielson this morning said Mack Brown always said the hardest part about coaching at Texas was having first choice at all of the Texas high school recruits...you accepted them as sophomores and Jrs and hoped they hadn't topped out physically.

In doing this, he missed out on TONS of nfl type talent, especially at QB.

Instead of accepting all of these highly touted kids so early, why not just let them know your interested and then make sure they can actually play in their senior yrs.

There is simply no excuse why that school should ever have less talent than 95% of their opponents.

why in the hell is he complaining about that when he was THE coach to make it big and that was a monumental part of his success?

This is stupid because Mack Brown was notorious for being too lazy to put any effort in recruiting and always wanted to wrap recruiting by the start of the football season by forbidding any visits anywhere else after committing to Texas. This type of laziness resulted in them either losing out on or never being in the running for Texas natives like Manziel, RG3, Luck, Winston, Matthew Stafford, and Darron Thomas.

There were even reports before he was fired that he was frustrated by having to actually go on the road in December and recruit.

Texas will be nationally competitive again with a head coach who can pair both solid game day coaching with sizable effort in recruiting, which it looks like they have in Herman this last weekend notwithstanding.

Why not accept them and then dump them if they aren't what you expected them to be? They do it to the schools all the time

Go back and check NFL rosters.
look at how many QBs are from Texas.

Texas HS football teams are torpedoing any semblance of defense on most Big 12 schools.

they need to go overpay for the best possible defensive coordinator.

Will Muschamp worked pretty good for them.

Oklahoma is the only school they play every year that has more talent than. them. They should be better than they are, no doubt

A year ago 7 Texas high school QBs started week one in the NFL, none played for the Longhorns.

Andy Dalton, Robert Griffin III, Case Keenum, Matthew Stafford, Ryan Tannehill, Drew Brees, Andrew Luck

I truly believe that also. Since that's home. The Stoops going there is an interesting angle also. But I just don't see BGB doing that but he is loyal to Snyder.

I think KState learned their lesson last time not going with Family.

You're right, got mixed up on where he was from, but yeah, he's still applicable because he desperately wanted to go to Texas and they didn't recruit him.

He got a rule passed at one point to give coaches less chances to visit because Saban was out working him on the road.

He also didn't offer anyone until (I believe it was) junior day after signing day. So this shite about sophomore commits peaking isn't even true.

He finally had to come off that policy when they were getting killed his last year or two by schools who had offered these kids a full year or more earlier.

I think the greater problem is in how they recruit to build their team. Playing in the Big 12 requires a deep bench on defense starting with the down linemen. They should recruit 15 defensive players per year, 5 for each level of the defense. The most important is the d-line though. If you can control the LOS, you can easily win the Big 12
