Was talking with a cousin of mine from Birmingham about this over the Thanksgiving break. With UAB shutting down it's football program, the only thing left at Legion Field is the [insert name] Birmingham Bowl, and I've read several posts over the years from Alabama and Auburn fans saying that the stadium has bad structural integrity.

Does the bowl game stay in Birmingham? Does that bowl game exist in a few years? What ends up happening to Legion Field?

Y'all could fill in a few pot holes on I-65 with the rubble might not be enough to make much difference...

Do they still use it for HS games? And where would they move the Birmingham Bowl to?

I think they still play some high school games there, but I could be wrong. Also, the Magic City Classic is played there.

i know they use to have the high school state championship games there but they now alternate each year between Jordan Hare Stadium and Bryant Denny Stadium.

Cost too much money to tear it down.

Other than the field being kept well, the stadium hasn't been kept up well at all. I guess they will keep it for the one SWAC game plus SWAC championship game and that's it. State championships have moved and the Birmingham Bowl can't even maintain a sponsor, and it will soon be gone as well.

Is Legion Field worth visiting for a game? I might hit the bowl game just to experience it.

The field is fake turf now. The structure is bad. You can tell how old everything is. I went to the Marshall game and it is pathetic. Had to take my daughter to the restroom and the urinals were just weird. Some plywood structure with the valves sticking out of it and the stalls weren't much better. Only had 3 windows open for concessions.

Stadium is in the ghetto and probably needs to come down anyway.

Paint a mural of Mohammed on it and the Muslims will handle the demolition free of charge.

They should really just play the state championships in Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.

Call the Cotton Bowl. May have some advice based on personal experience.

I have family there and might go if we get the nod for the Birmingham Bowl, but they've told me that the stadium is practically in a war zone.

I was there for USC's Birmingham Bowl (then Papa Johns Bowl) game in 2009. Do yourself a favor and don't go to that dump. I thought I was going to catch a disease just being in those restrooms.

Also, they made us (the band) stay in Hoover. It gave us this false sense that the bowl game was going to be in some nice place. I was shocked once we got to the stadium.

Looking at it now, it is insane that this place hosted some soccer games for the '96 Summer Olympics.

It used to be a decent stadium. The city hasn't done anything to it since UA stopped playing there in 2003.

They're building a newer stadium in preparations for the 2020 Olympics.

And that sign is still on the outside of it. But keep in mind that Alabama was still playing several big games in Birmingham each year up until 2002-2003. I remember going to some games there when my older sister was a freshman at UA. Just looked it up, and they played 2 games there in 2000 and 2001, and 1 in 2002 and 2003. They played 3 home games there each year from 96-98.
