The Los Angeles Dodgers are designating right-hander Trevor Bauer for assignment, sources tell ESPN. The Dodgers will eat $22.5 million. Bauer can sign with any major league team for the $720,000 minimum and can play immediately after completing a record-long suspension.

Dodgers should be ashamed. His accuser went back for a second encounter.

It's creepy that he gets off on hurting his partner, but it isn't illegal or even tortious.

If a team claims him on waivers they will have to take on his salary. Zero percent chance.

We release a guy and pay $22 mil to not pitch for us because he likes to consensually punch buttholes.

They've been paying him the whole time, right?

No. No pay while he was suspended.

Yes, to not pitch with all the injuries we had.

ETA: paid while on leave

No. All MLB suspensions are without pay. Plus the arbitrator decided he shouldn't get paid for the first 50 games of 2023.

With the reinstatement, Bauer will serve an unpaid suspension of 194 games. In addition, the arbitrator docked Bauer’s salary for the first 50 games of the 2023 season (i.e., the period covering March 30, 2023, to May 23, 2023).

quote:

Based on Bauer’s $32 million salary for 2023 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the additional 50 games without pay for the upcoming season will cost him $9,302,325.58.

The Dodgers are likely to pay Bauer the remaining $22,697,674.42 and release him, making Bauer a free agent.

Dodgers will still pay the remaining $22.5 million on Trevor Bauer's contract (which factors in the 50 games' worth of docked pay). They have seven days to find a trade partner before putting him on waivers. If he clears, any team can sign him as a free agent for $720,000.
