COVID hit them harder than any team in the NBA at the start of the season. Then injuries. They just did get everyone back healthy(except Collins is out for the year w/a torn Planters Fascia) but still haven't been able to get into any kind of rhythm.

They overachieved last year in their playoff run and the East has gotten better. They have one young all-star caliber player with a bunch of pretty good role players. They’ve also been hammered by injuries. They also struggle to defend even with their first choice roster.
Thus they are likely a play-in team which is about where they will float around until they get a second all-star caliber player and fix the defense.

The lack of carrying calls in the NBA is as comical as the lack of traveling calls. Three violations in that short clip alone.

I think they hit their ceiling last year with that fluky Philly series.
Trae is the worst defender in the league as far as top 30 guys go.

Meh they had one of if not the best record in the league after the all star break last year. It wasn’t like that run came out of nowhere. They’d been playing extremely well leading into the playoffs. This season they’re playing bad defense and got hit really hard by injuries and Covid.

I blame it mostly on the defense/effort.
It was like they made the ECF and just kind of assumed they could coast this season.

Agree. Trae made some comment about the regular season being boring or something close at the beginning of the year. They’ve played like that on the defensive side all year.
