Tom Brady faces Ohio State QB for first time in NFL career, sneaks in shot at Buckeyes QBs

This week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers face the Chicago Bears. Brady has gone against them six times in his career, including last season. But this will be the first time that the Michigan grad will face an Ohio State quarterback as the opposing team's starter in his 22-year NFL career when he faces the Bears' Justin Fields on Sunday.
Asked about this fact, Brady took a measured response at first.
"I don't want to say anything too inflammatory about Ohio State," Brady said. "When it's Michigan State week, those are the guys I can kind of go after."
But with Ohio State, Brady couldn't resist for too long. Instead, he threw a question back at the questioner.
"That's interesting," Brady mused, with a sly smile. "Why aren't there a lot of Ohio State quarterbacks in the pros? Lot of Michigan guys over the years but not a lot of Ohio State guys."
Since Brady entered the NFL in 2000, six different former Buckeyes QBs have started a total of 45 games. (One of them, Terrelle Pryor, started 10 games at QB and 20 more at wide receiver.)
In that same time period, a total of seven non-Brady Wolverines quarterbacks alone have started 164 NFL games.

For some reason, I find it mildly hilarious that Brady hasn't faced a starting QB from THE Ohio State.

I hate Ohio St., but they have put a ton of great players in the NFL. This is silly.

Who are all these Michigan QBs in the NFL? It's Brady and Chad Henne since Brady has been in the NFL. That may be it? Not like Michigan has been lighting it up over the years

Brian Griese.
The funny thing is neither program has produced a star at the QB position in the last 20 years outside of Brady. The best QB after Brady from either school is Griese.
Maybe Fields changes that.

Wasn’t Tua the first Bama QB he faced in 22 years?

I mean what really good college programs have produced really good NFL QBs over the last 20 years?
The best QBs are:
Michigan
Purdue
Tennessee
Cal
Texas Tech
None of the have really been powers since 2000

Nope.
Brodie Croyle in 2008.

That's what makes his whole comment funny. It's not like there's any college program really know for producing great QBs consistently over a long period of time.
USC somehow gets the nod all the time as the top QB school, yet I can't even recall the last time a USC QB won a playoff game. Maybe Palmer or Leinart?
Namath was a Bama guy, but they suck at producing QBs.
Staubach was Navy...when's the last time a Navy guy was even drafted?
Aikman, UCLA
Young, BYU
Montana, Notre Dame
Stanford at Elway and Luck, but Luck called it quits too early to really be in the conversation.
But name even 2 more guys from any of those schools that was really great or even just really good.
QB is the most difficult position to continously produce good/great NFL QBs.

Yeah, so those 4 programs have produced 2 HOFers in the last 20+ years.
Uh, no. Harbaugh had a losing record. Grbac only had 70 starts to his name, and his last year as a starter he was worse than Trent Dilfer who he replaced because the Ravens didn't want a "game manager" for their starter.

Baw, just stop. You're just throwing out any name you can think of now.
Vinny wasn't a good QB in the NFL.

That dude is probably worse than any of the Ohio State quarterbacks to make the NFL in the last 20 years.
He only made 1 start and played in 7 games.

Testerverde is the number 16th all time passing TD's, he is number 14 all time in yards. So what are you talking about?
Posted on 10/24/21 at 1:13 pm to Bench McElroy
An interesting discussion is if Brady should have his number retired by Michigan.
Obviously, it will happen because he's the GOAT in the NFL, but he was pretty average at MIchigan.
