Former Houston right guard Justin Murphy took to social media Thursday night with a series of posts on Twitter, accusing head coach Dana Holgorsen of the decision to “actively tank” the football season.

quote:

After the Cougars started the season 1-3, Murphy claimed Holgorsen actively reached out to seniors to redshirt this season and “develop” for 2020. Quarterback D’Eriq King and wide receiver Keith Corbin announced Sept. 30 they would sit the rest of the season.

His whole tweet:

He makes good points, but he really shouldn't be playing football at all; as beat up as he is. Go find your tuition money elsewhere.

If he (Dana) is within the NCAA rules, and the relevant players agreed to it, I have no issue with it.

Sounds like a good way to get a free graduate degree?

King got trashed when he announced he would redshirt. Most thought he was abandoning his teammates in the middle of the season.

Then word starts to leak Holgorsen encouraged him to redshirt instead of wasting his Senior season on a losing campaign.

It might be technically within the rules but still is kind of scummy. It's like Bama pressuring guys to take a medical leave from the team where they free up a spot on the scholarship limit. Many of the "injuries" were questionable as in they weren't quite season ending level.

Question... is King a graduating senior?

If I were him, I would transfer to get the frick away from Holgo.

It may not be against the rules but it will sure be up for an obvious patch this offseason.

Kind of like Wisconsin under Bielema abusing the new rule on kickoffs to keep kicking the ball out of bounds to drain the clock some years back.

He & Dana are some greasy looking fellows. He is trying to make Coug High big just by throwing money at it & I am confident they are doing some rogue things there.

Definitely a bad week or so. Tilman was practically taking up for China & the NBA. Everything is MONEY to him & nothing else.

If I buy a ticket or pay sponsorship dollars there should be an implied warranty that both teams are trying to win. "Tanking" should be grounds for termination with cause.

What is the allure of tanking at U of Houston?

If he wants to make it to the NFL sitting out this year and coming back to Houston makes no sense.

Transfer to a place with more exposure.

Conspiracy Theory: Dana took the Houston job to audition for the Texans job when O'Brien inevitably gets fired.

Not sure why people keep saying this. If you can play the nfl will find you.

Dana barley put effort into recruiting, do you really think he will put effort into scouting at the pro level

Honestly though, if I were a rival program I would take a long hard look at Clayton Tune. Dude can play and it is clear UH isn't giving him any respect.

Maybe it should be “Find you a coach who can prep you for the NFL better”.

Yes, the NFL can find you if you are good enough or have enough hype. But it is a lot easier to find a guy playing at a big market team like USC or UCLA than North Dakota State, Delaware, or Wyoming and you don’t have as many question as to how they handle big time competition because they will have played some big teams.
