The story behind the split of Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the Patriots

WE LOOKED FOR clues. Tom Brady's final news conference -- was that a clue? We wondered what he would say after the New England Patriots lost to the Tennessee Titans in the first round of the playoffs. More than that, we wondered how he would act.
"Well done is better than well said," his father always told him, and so we'd been trained to watch his body language for hints into his thinking. We'd watched him as he bit his lip and gutted through the Patriot Way when Bill Belichick would cut or trade key players; watched when he stood alone during his Deflategate news conference; watched when he sat onstage with Jim Gray in 2018 and, in response to a question about whether he felt appreciated by his bosses, blurted out, "I plead the fifth!"; watched to see how he handled a postseason win, when he would hug Belichick, or loss, when he could look almost physically ill.

WE LISTENED AS those close to Brady insisted he would be the first to go. Tom Brady Sr. once told me that once Belichick found a quarterback "who is better for a dollar less, [Tom will] be gone." Brady Sr. also told Leibovich, "It will end badly." Some close to Brady actually looked forward to that day, in a weird way, believing that the team would collapse without him -- without the human backstop who bailed out everyone's mistakes, who helped Belichick to all but two of his winning seasons as a head coach, who engineered five Super Bowl wins when trailing or tied in the fourth quarter.

We all know Belichick wanted to trade Brady years ago when he still had massive value and roll with Jimmy G but Kraft nixed the trade...in 2017 and instead traded Jimmy.

That is not how it happened according to the 49ers. The very first name San Francisco brought up to Belichick in the phone call was Tom Brady. Belichick practically laughed in their faces over the phone.
The Belichick-Brady divorce began with Deflategate in 2015. It wasn't until the 2018 championship season that it became apparent to Brady and Belichick that their days together were numbered.

Well maybe it was Bayless or Cowherd (so maybe it's not true) but the story is that Belichick was happy with Jimmy, thought the Pats would do just fine with him and he was the future and cheaper.
And to make the team better, knew he could get quality draft pics for Brady.
But in a closed door session with Kraft over a few hours, with Belichick pleading his case...Kraft said no, Tom is like a son to me, we'll never trade him.
And that's when the rift between Bill, Kraft and Brady started - as Bill was always promised he had complete control of the team and Kraft basically told him, no Tom is more powerful than you because I won't let you trade him.

Or, as what probably happened, Belichick refused to completely sell out this year for WRs/TEs and Brady wanted more say over personel than Belichick was willing to give (i.e. more than zero)

That was a terrible way to word it, but it will be interesting to see how the season unfolds, assuming that it even does lol

At the end of the day - Brady is a 42 year old QB about to be 43. A lot of guys before him retired well before this because of injuries and different rules about hitting QBs. Bill was making a business decision when he was looking to maybe trade Brady 3 years ago. Father Time is undefeated.

No I’m just pointing out that it only takes 2 brain cells to be able to admit 2 things can both be great simultaneously

We will never know what a prime Brady is without Belichick nor a Belichick without a prime Brady.

Who cares ..... Brady is washed up. Tampa thinks they are gonna win the SB with a not as good of version of TB. Why won't people see this. He can't make the throws he used to. It's a simple fact.

Bill won't show up to training camp suddenly unable to coach football anymore because of his age. Brady may well show up to training camp unable to throw the football anymore because of his
