Excuse my ignorance, but I remember everyone talking about the shift being banned this season in MLB during the CBA talks. I’m watching highlights and teams are still shifting. Is there an exception to the rule or something?

Why ban the shift? Here's a wild thought; how about hitters learn to handle the bat?

It seems artificial to dictate where the defense can position their players.

The shift was a big reason why the Braves defense suddenly improved during the August turnaround.

Wait, they really banned the shift in MLB games? Jesus, that’s pitiful

Not a fan of banning the shift.

Only benefits teams unwilling to adapt.

From the All Star Break through the end of the regular season last year the 5 teams who shifted the most were Braves, Dodgers, Rays, Red Sox and Astros. The 4 teams in the LCS and the team with the best record in baseball.

Fair point.

But it's also bit us in the arse our fair share of times, also.

People having an issue with the shift is one of the more odd things in sports.

A player hits the ball to the left side nearly every at bat but dudes flip out at the thought of the defense adjusting for this.

It's no different than playing deeper for a power hitter. Guarding the lines, playing shallow, double play depth, bringing the entire infield in.

It’s not fair.

These guys are only getting paid multiple millions of dollars. It is ridiculous to ask them to do such a tall task like hit it where the defense has left a gaping hole.

Another reason to stop watching MLB. The fact the players wanted this banned vs just bunt down the line is amazing to me

We can't do that - instead we have to make new rules instead of having world class athletes make changes like adjusting their grip on the bat or not trying to make highlight reels for 700' homeruns.

Yeah!!!

MLB players can’t hit oppo or bunt for a base hit when teams put on the shift…it’s unfair
