It's really not close. MJ wanted to win so much more and there's a reason he never lost a finals.

The old MJ wanted to win so much that he quit basketball for 2 years in the prime of his career.

I think if anything last years finals proved how much better LBJ is compared to anybody else is the league. If you trade him for Curry last finals the Cavs don't even sniff a game. It would just be blowout after blowout. Curry is certainly a better shooter. Hell he may be the GOAT shooter but LBJ can just do soooo much more.

LBJ is a better perimeter defender.
LBJ is a better help defender.
LBJ is a better shot blocker.
LBJ is a MUCH MORE versatile defender.
LBJ is a better rebounder.
LBJ is a better passer.
LBJ is better at attacking the basket.
LBJ forces more defenders into help.

Curry is a better shooter.
Curry forces teams to defend him further out.
Curry is a harder guard in PNR.

In the playoffs defense is SOOO important. LBJ normally guards one of the opposing teams best players and also takes the challenge of guarding bigger post players so his teams can play smaller at times. In his early Cavs days LBJ guarded Rondo, Pierce, Allen, Garnett, and Bass all in the same game and whoever he was on got locked up. The year Rose won the MVP LBJ put the clamps on him late in games to win that series. That's crazy valuable and can't be summed up by metrics. Just think about having a defender that can guard MVP levels PGs all the way down to MVP level PFs.

People say that all time, and I just think it's so dumb. It doesn't take away from how incredible Lebron is, but Steph had one of the best seasons in the history of the NBA. His spacing is essential to the offense, he's a very good passer, a great scorer, and the best shooter in the history of the game.

He did?

Top 5.

Last season was borderline top 10 all-time compared to other players' peak years. He's right up there near the top this year.

LeBron is more valuable to the Cavs than Steph is to the Warriors. Last night does not change my opinion on that.

Last year top 10... Really?

LeBron and MJ by themselves can combine to show 5 better seasons than what Steph did this year. Last year? Not even top 50.

You think this season was closer to top 50 or top 5?

This year was closer to top 5 than top 50 for sure.

I don't think it was top 5 though.

In terms of PER if you combined MJs, LeBrons, and Stephs top seasons it would be exactly 5th.

Take into account that LeBron and MJ were actually 1st team all NBA defensive nods (unlike Steph) as well during their peak years.. I think it's a viable argument.

Defense is 1\2 of the game. Can't forget that when comparing seasons\careers.

Obviously PER isn't the one all be all stat but it's a nice starter. In class and don't really have time to pull up all the stats to compare.

Look again: over the years, the game's greatest players have produced standout seasons that fall into the same general range, from David Robinson's 245 in 1993-94 to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's 262 in 1977-78 to LeBron James' 282 in 2012-13. And now realize that even in this august group, Curry is an outlier, the season-long equivalent of a halfcourt swish. Through Golden State's 70th game of the season, his PPA is a whopping 326.

How outlandish is this? By way of comparison, Kawhi Leonard's PPA through 70 games is a hefty 266, which is the sixth best mark since 1977-78. The San Antonio forward is having a pantheon season, and he's also a footnote. His performance this year fits right in with the other basketball deities through history; it's just that the Curry is a god among gods. Also note that the second-best season since 1977-78. right behind Lebron's 282 in 2012-13, is Curry's 277 from last season. Pretty nice run.

I can't think of a more ill-timed thread.

"Curry isn't even that valuable to the Warriors!"

:Curry wins unanimous MVP - the first ever - the morning after breaking a record for points scored in OT; a game in which he returned from injury, put the team on his back when it mattered most, and buried the Blazers singlehandedly:

"Oh."

So who is Kevin Broom and why should I care about his made up equation and "PPA"? According to that MJ only has 1 top 10 season and LeBron has 4. I'm sure you agree with that assessment as well?
